THU FEB 1 3/TM,M/60-80 Duros West - Cancelled
Leader: Mark Nienberg     (510) 812-9312    text
Meet at 9:30 am
UPDATE:

Cancelled due to almost certain rain.

This weekly ride often tours through West Marin, but sometimes travels to Napa, Sonoma, or Livermore, depending on the season. We have frequent regroups and usually stop for a real lunch, if it is available on the route. This listing will be updated when the route and leader have been determined, usually by Monday evening. Status updates for weather cancellations will also be posted on the schedule.

There is often a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. Faster riders should feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first.

Meet at 5:20 pm for a 5:30 pm start
Start Location: North Berkeley BART

UPDATE:

Tonight's ride is canceled due to likely rain. We'll hope for better weather next week.

Please join us for a weekly Thursday evening ride. This is a short ride but with a steep climb! We’ll head up Virginia St and Spruce to Spruce/Grizzly Peak for our first regroup, then head out along Wildcat Canyon to South Park Rd. From there, we’ll climb South Park, descend, and climb it again as many times as the mood strikes us (usually two or three times is enough, but individual riders can shorten or lengthen the ride as desired). South Park is closed to cars starting November 1st, which makes it perfect for winter riding. If we complete two round trip ascents up South Park then back to N Berkeley Bart, expect about 2,300 feet of elevation gain. This is a great way to stay in shape over the winter!

NOTE: This is a night ride. Come with bright front and rear lights (and make sure they work). 20% chance or greater of rain cancels the ride. Please contact ride leaders with any questions.

SAT FEB 17 4/TM/52-80-100 Cotati - King Ridge Loop
Leader: Arnim Polster     (415) 271-3440    text
Meet at 7:30 am   Rain Date: Sat Feb 24
UPDATE:

Postponed to 2/24 due to rain on Saturday

80-mile route: meet 8:45am, roll at 8:55am
52-mile route: meet 9:55am, roll at 10:10am

For 100-mile route, start/end at my home near Cotati: 5523 Henning Road (short distance from Hwy 116, plenty of parking), meet @7:30 roll @7:45am. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/39000447

For 80-mile version, start/end in Freestone. We'll be regrouping in Freestone ca. 8:45am, roll at 8:55am. If you are starting from Freestone, please be ready to ride at 8:55am. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38963426

For 52-mile version, start/end in Duncans Mills, We'll regroup in Duncans Mills ca. 9:55am, roll at 10:10am. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/39375366

For those riding either of the longer options, refreshments at Duncans Mills. We'll be there at least as long as it takes me to eat a pint of ice cream (typically 12 - 15 minutes). For all options, (somewhat late) lunch stop at the store in Fort Ross; there are decent food options at this store, which will be our longest stop (ca 30 minutes). Bathrooms: Freestone, Duncans Mills, Cazadero, Fort Ross, Jenner, Valley Ford

100 mile route: We will plan on finishing before sunset (which will be 5:51pm) but a mechanical or two could easily have us finishing later. So for the 100 mile option lights are mandatory. Keep in mind that, if we do wind up finishing after sunset, there are no street lights on the roads of our return route, and there is a fairly long descent on Bay Hill Road; the moon will only be about half-full. Unless rain pushes us to the 2/24 rain-date, in which case we'll have a full moon..

This time of year, mornings in Cotati can be quite cold, and afternoons quite warm, so check the weather the day before and dress with appropriately flexible options.

Please pre-register, and let me know where you'll be starting from, so I'll know to look for you at the starting points for the 2 shorter options.

We will approach Tunnel from Berkeley instead of from Keith and Broadway in Oakland. Returning, we will, from Spruce, turn well before Los Angeles to go through quieter streets before getting on more well traveled roads like California and Russell. Please check out this route and pin it if you come on this ride. Meet at 9:45. Roll at 9:55.

UPDATE:

Ride is canceled. See Tom’s ride on Wednesday for a chance to get out before the storm.

UPDATE:

Ride is canceled tonight/ Feb. 29 because of rain. Hope the weather improves next week!

Come join fellow Grizzlies who will help you learn how to maintain your bike and keep it in top running condition. We'll check out the condition of your bikes (i.e., tires, chain, brakes, wheels, cables, etc.), give you some advice and show you the tools you'd need. We'll focus on Drivetrain maintenance at this workshop.

We'll go for a ride around Pt. Richmond loop at 10:45am. with lunch at Little Louies

What to bring to the clinic: Please bring your bike and any questions regarding bike maintenance. We will do our best to take a look at everyone’s bike and give maintenance tips.

Non-members are very welcome to pre-register and join us. Bring a friend.

We'll have coffee and bagels!

This ride is in honor of my birthday. We will ride a loop around Paradise Drive to the Junction Beer Garden/Pizza Hacker where I will host beer, soft drinks and pizza. From there it is a flat 1.4 miles back to the start.

There is a RWGPS route and some cue sheets linked here. The RWGPS cue sheet has a couple of glitches, but its map and the other cue sheets are good. Please print or download what you need in advance.

Please pre-register.

UPDATE:

Ride is canceled. See Tom’s ride on Wednesday for a chance to get out before the storm.

UPDATE:

Ride is canceled tonight/ Feb. 29 because of rain. Hope the weather improves next week!
