TUE NOV 30, 2021 Today
TUE NOV 30 5!/TM/10 Tuesday evening South Park repeats (repeats weekly)
Leader: Anne Schonfield     (510) 851-4749
Leader: Elizabeth Crocker     (510) 484-1060
Meet at 5:30 pm for a 5:35 pm start
Start Location: Berkeley - Spruce & Grizzly Peak Blvd - north side
Optional pre-registration for members

Please join us for a weekly Tuesday evening ride. This is a short ride but with a steep climb! Meet at the water fountain at Spruce/Grizzly Peak. We'll head out along Wildcat Canyon to South Park Rd. From there, we'll climb to the top of South Park once or twice (e.g. we’ll climb S. Park, descend and climb again if the mood strikes us). South Park is closed to cars, which makes it perfect for winter riding. If we complete 2 round trip ascents up South Park, expect ~10 miles and about 1,800 feet of elevation gain. This is a great workout!
NOTE: it will be dark by 5:30 in mid Nov, so this ride is mostly in dark. Come with bright front and rear lights (and make sure they work). 20% chance or greater of rain cancels the ride. Please contact ride leaders with any questions.
https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/2742955390 (this route shows 3 ascents up South Park, we’ll only do 1-2 ascents. Thanks to Nick Umemoto for the route and inspiration!)

Anyone who is a regular participant can offer route suggestions. A few of our favorites may prime the pump for the first few months (e.g...Dirty Zoo [East Bay], Planet of the Apes [Peninsula], and Coastal [Marin]).

This ride will respect the trails and execute only when they are dry enough for riding without damage.

Plan will be to offer MTB and Gravel pace groups and no rider will be left behind.

Participants should be willing and prepared to do >5K climbing and 3-4 hours of ride time.

SAT DEC 11 - SUN DEC 12 5/LT/7 Overnight bike campout in Tilden
Leader: Stephen Chan
Meet at 10:00 am for a 10:15 am start
Start Location: Rockridge BART
Mandatory pre-registration for members

Come join a merry group of bike tourers for an overnight bike camping trip to Tilden Regional Park.

I have reserved a large group camping site for Saturday Dec 11 in Tilden. This trip should be beginner friendly (low mileage, close to home/transit, familiar roads) and offer many opportunities for bike tourers to exchange stories, gear tips, and ride experiences. If you are new to bike touring and have questions, please reach out via email.

You are welcome to take your own route but my co-organizers and I will offer a paved and unpaved options to the campsite. We will start from Rockridge BART. Routes are linked below.

Days will be short and the night will be long so I'm going to have a bunch of firewood hauled up to camp. Please bring $5-10 cash to cover the cost of the camp reservation and firewood (exact amount will depend on number of attendees).

FYI - This event is cross-listed with the NorCal Bike Touring meetup.com group. That group will be hosting it's annual holiday gathering Saturday afternoon at the campsite. A potluck style feast and a white elephant gift exchange will be optional but very open to all. Please just RSVP once, if you are a member of both.
