Deja Vue Diablo!

Come join us for our annual New Year’s Day Ride up Mount Diablo. Meet at Heather Farms for a simple out and back up North Gate. Riders may go all the way to the top and summit the mountain, or choose a turnaround point with an elevation that works for you.

Reaching Heather Farms by Bart is very simple. Coordinate your Bart arrival at the Pleasant Hill Bart to allow at least 10 minutes to ride south along the bike trail to arrive at Heather Farms by 10 a.m.

First official regroup up the mountain will be at The Junction, where many people decide how much further they will ride. Please join fellow Grizzlies for a hot coffee stop at the end of the ride at Peet's Coffee across the street from Heather Farms.

Raid your winter closet; carry a windbreaker, full finger gloves and consider any other bike “warmies” you own. Don't try to fool with Mother Nature... you'll be sorry!

Please pre-register

Bring snacks, lunch & water

Leader: Ken Morrison     (510) 334-9551    text
Meet at 9:30 am
Start Location: San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center
Pre-registration

We'll ride clockwise for a change around our regular Marshall Wall loop. From our Marinwood start, we will ride to Nicasio, then to Pt Reyes Station for a pastry, then up the coast to the Marshall Wall, which is a two-humper in this direction. Lunch at the Cheese Factory before completing the loop.

Shorten the ride to about 42 miles by starting in Nicasio. We should pass through there about 10:20 or so.

Please pre-register if you can. There is often a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. We'll start when everyone who arrives by the meeting time is ready. If you arrive after the meeting time you may have to chase. You can probably catch us in Nicasio, where we will have a short regroup.

Start Location: North Berkeley BART
Pre-registration

Please join us for a weekly Thursday evening ride. This is a short ride but with a steep climb! We’ll head up Virginia St and Spruce to Spruce/Grizzly Peak for our first regroup, then head out along Wildcat Canyon to South Park Rd. From there, we’ll climb South Park, descend, and climb it again as many times as the mood strikes us (usually two or three times is enough, but individual riders can shorten or lengthen the ride as desired). South Park is closed to cars starting November 1st, which makes it perfect for winter riding. If we complete two round trip ascents up South Park then back to N Berkeley Bart, expect about 2,300 feet of elevation gain. This is a great way to stay in shape over the winter!

NOTE: This is a night ride. Come with bright front and rear lights (and make sure they work). 20% chance or greater of rain cancels the ride. Please contact ride leaders with any questions.

GPC Route: Bear Valley to Drakes Beach
Start Location: Point Reyes Bear Valley Visitor Center

Let's hunt for elephant seals! This is one of my favorite rides. Some intrepid riders will want to skip Drakes and go to Chimney Rock or the lighthouse or visit all three. It's about a 6 mile difference. This links to lighthouse cue sheet. We will sort out who is riding where at the ride start.

Ride start has water, restrooms, ample parking. Drakes beach has water, restrooms, picnic tables.

Bring a lunch or pick something up at Inverness Park or in Inverness.

The Historic Life-Saving Service and G Ranch Cemetery is along the way, uphill from the end of Drakes Estero (take a right turn just across the bridge to eucalyptus grove).

Please pre-register.

Rain cancels. You can also join our web forum and check the forum archives for the current information.

The classic route RWGPS, but with the start moved to El Cerrito Plaza. Bring warm layers and bright lights to see by. The majority of the dirt sections are up hill or flat, but expect some short bumpy descents in the dark. I'm hoping mud shouldn't be too bad with over a week to dry out, but I will make changes in case of rain. 35mm+ tires recommended.

Don't let the distance fool you, this ride has almost 3k feet of elevation [RWGPS] and some of it gets pretty steep. With so many clear days let's take advantage of the dry trails and ride Tilden. Be prepared to hike-a-bike a few of the steep spots, and expect lots of hikers out on the trails. 38mm+ tires are recommended, but most of the descending will be on pavement. Depending on conditions there might be some adjustments made to the route, so keep an eye out here for updates. Meet at Bart, end at Nick's Pizza.

We will have a quick stop at Miller Creek Park in Marinwood. Then over to Nicasio and Point Reyes to the next stop. You can get lunch here or at Inverness Park Market. Get it to go as we will continue on to Drakes Beach and eat lunch there with the elephant seals. The visitor center at Drakes Beach may have food and drink but I am not certain. After lunch, we will ride back to Olema and Sir Francis Drake Blvd to Fairfax and San Rafael with a stop at the Lagunitas Market. Pace will be at the upper end of TM, but we will have regular regroups. Route can be found here: Drakes Beach

Not for the faint of heart! Enjoy one last ride of this era. Following the theme of others this week, going to visit Elephant Seals at Pt Reyes. But starting from Berkeley to make it longer. And adding a dirt fire road climb to Mount Vision. It should be doable on a road bike but it’s possible you may have to walk parts. Pace will be fairly brisk, but highly recommend bringing lights because we may get back after sunset.

Probably a brief stop for water/bathroom at Pt Reyes Station on the way up (should be around 10), and a longer stop on the way back (around 3 or so). Feel free to text me if you have any questions.

Next, we ride a loop around Duck Soup, where you may find Wood Ducks, then return the way we came but do not turn left at the Sand Hill Cranes. You might want to download the Merlin Bird ID app onto your smartphone before the trip, it's great fun! You may want to bring lunch or stop at the Subway near the sanctuary. I know that some of you will just have birdseed! Rain and/or hurricane force winds cancels (the birds don't like it).

Please sign up if you are interested. Leave from North Berkeley BART at 7:15. Alternatively, if you want to drive to Point Richmond, we will be rolling out from there at 7:45. Probably a brief stop for water/bathroom at Pt Reyes Station on the way up (should be around 10), and a longer stop on the way back (around 3 or so). Feel free to text me if you have any questions.

This weekly ride often tours through West Marin, but sometimes travels to Napa, Sonoma, or Livermore, depending on the season. We have frequent regroups and usually stop for a real lunch, if it is available on the route. This listing will be updated when the route and leader have been determined, usually by Monday evening. Status updates for weather cancellations will also be posted on the schedule.

There is sometimes a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. Faster riders should feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first.

Come join fellow Grizzlies who will help you learn how to maintain your bike and keep it in top running condition. We'll check out the condition of your bikes (i.e., tires, chain, brakes, wheels, cables, etc.), give you some advice and show you the tools you'd need.

We'll go for a ride around Pt. Richmond loop at 10:30am with lunch at Little Louies and/or Masa.

What to bring to the clinic: Please bring your bike and any questions regarding bike maintenance. We will do our best to take a look at everyone’s bike and give maintenance tips.

Non-members are very welcome to pre-register and join us. Bring a friend.

We'll have coffee and bagels!

This is a placeholder ride for planning only. The leader needs to update it with more information.

Miles and smiles, hills and thrills, lunches and lattes. Meet in Isleton at 10:00 am for a 10:15 departure. Take a right just before the Snow Geese, do not be distracted by the trees full of Starlings, do a U-turn at the Sand Hill Cranes, keep straight by the Cackling Geese and come to a stop for lunch with the White Fronted Geese, Shovelers, Pintails and Stilts, with maybe a Great Egret or a Great Blue Heron thrown in.

This is not complete.
