Leader: Mark Nienberg     (510) 812-9312
Meet at 9:00 am
Start Location: Piper Park

Note the 9:00 am start due to less traffic expected on the holiday. We'll ride a 40 mile loop around Mt Tam plus an up and back to the summit. That should get us home for afternoon holiday activities.

From Piper Park (water and rest rooms), we ride the bike route to Fairfax. Then BoFax Road to Alpine Dam and Ridecrest. Up the seven sisters to the summit of Tam. Down to Pantoll and Panoramic to the descent into Mill Valley. Possible lunch at Cafe Sol in Mill Valley if it isn't overwhelmed with patrons. Final climb over Camino Alto and return to Piper Park via the bike path.

Bring a snack. Lunch is late in the ride and may not work out at all. Shorten the ride to 33 miles by skipping the out and back to the summit.

Faster riders are welcome, too...just save me a Bear Claw! Bring a friend. SAT JUL 20 5/TM/66 Artichoke Bread Birthday Ride!
Leader: Jessica Jensen     (510) 508-6389
Meet at 10:00 am for a 10:15 am start
GPC Route: Half Moon Bay - Gazos Creek - Tunitas Creek Variations
Start Location: Half Moon Bay - Fire Station

Hey hey hey party people! Come join me for my annual birthday ride up the coast and then back inland for some beautiful views, challenging climbs, rewarding descents...and the main attraction: delicious artichoke bread in the middle and of course birthday cupcakes at the end to celebrate with!

Route description: Start off with the traditional and wonderfully scenic 20-mile roll down Hwy 1 for coastal views and a short visit to Pigeon Point Lighthouse, then a short sprint further south to Gazos Creek Road. Wax poetic on the gentle, lesser traveled spur up to South Fork Gazos Creek Road before rejoining Gazos Creek/Cloverdale Road to Pescadero to share a picnic lunch in the back yard of Norm's Market ("world famous" artichoke bread, sandwiches, pastries, coffees). Bucolic vistas meet nicely patched pavement along the pleasant but arduous climb up the old Stage Road with a (rolling) regroup in San Gregorio, continuing on Stage Road northward to Hwy 1. A quick and breezy descent along the highway to Tunitas Creek Road, regroup/refreshments at the Bike Hut and then up the flats and early climbs on Tunitas Creek Road until Lobitos Creek Road before cutting back toward the coast, sticking to back roads (Verde, Purisma Creek, and a final short, celebratory, leg-burning ascent up Higgins Canyon Road) with just enough rolling and flat miles on the home stretch back to Half Moon Bay to work out the lactic acid.

SUN JUL 21 4/TM/50 The Epic Ride Series, Vol. II -- Sebastopol - Coleman Valley Loop
Leader: Stephanie Clarke     (510) 423-1873
Leader: David Cone
Meet at 9:30 am
Start Location: Sebastopol - Ragle Ranch Park

For our next installment of the Epic Ride Series, we’ll head to Sonoma to tackle some of the most picturesque and challenging roads available -- there's a reason the pros ride out here. We’ll do a loop from Sebastopol west to Occidental and Duncans Mills and then back south on Hwy 1, up Coleman Vallety Road, and on to Freestone and the short hop back to the cars from there.  There will be plenty of hills and rollers, and a big, steep climb up Coleman Valley Road, one of Sonoma County’s signature hills. Late rest/lunch stop at the heavenly Freestone Bakery (try their Egyptian ginger-fig bread and you’ll know what we mean). Otherwise, bring plenty of water and snacks, layers, and an extra tube or two in case of flats. Allow a minimum of 1 ½ hours drive time from the City and East Bay. Meet just outside the gate of Ragle Ranch Park in Sebastopol (easy street parking near the gate so you can avoid the entry fee; porta-potties available at the park).

SAT JUL 27 5!/TM/50-ish Epic Ride Series, Vol. III -- Kings Ridge
Leader: Stephanie Clarke     (510) 423-1873
Meet at 9:45 am
UPDATE:

This ride is being postponed in light of the member party.  Let's ride local instead and enjoy the epic party afterward.  Future date for this ride is not yet set.

For the final installment of the Epic Ride Series, we will take on one of the most challenging and spectacular loops in Northern California, going from the sleepy hamlet of Duncan Mills to Cazedero and then up Kings Ridge.  There's a reason that so many people come from all over the country to ride Levi's Gran Fondo -- tough climbs, killer views, great descents, and oodles of endorphins once you've finished.  We won't go as long as Levi or the "M" boys do, and instead opt for a longer drive so as to take on the best parts of the route with fresh legs.  Because of the remoteness of the ride, be prepared with plenty of water and food, make sure your bike and tires are in good shape, and be prepared to deal with any flats or mechanicals along the way.  Exact route to be determined, i.e., which great road we will take back from the top of the ridge.  RSVP beforehand necessary!  Email the leader by Wednesday, July 24 and she will respond with meeting time and place (note: in order for the ride to happen, at least more than a handful of riders must sign up; leader is not interested in riding this by herself).  RSVP by Wednesday, July 24th.
