UPDATE:

Update all trails in Tilden are currently closed. Trails in redwood are presently open. I couldn't find anything definitive on Joaquin Miller, but trails are likely closed there as well. I will adjust the route accordingly to avoid any closed trails, so expect potentially more road riding.

Ride with GPS
The summer heat is here, but that doesn't mean we can't still ride bikes. The route is a mix of trails and roads so it's a good time to break out the gravel bike. Expect one or two hike-a-bike spots and be prepared for plenty of hikers.

Note that we might need to adjust the route on the fly depending on conditions. Some regional park trails are closed due to the heat, but at the moment none of the trails on this route are, so hopefully it will stay that way. Also worth noting grizzly peak is closed to cars at the moment. Previous years they have let bikes through but if we get turned away we might need to cut off the last 3rd or so of the ride or pick an alternate route.

Then we'll make our way to Larkspur via Camino Alto. At Larkspur Landing we have another snack before heading to the East Bay via the SMART tunnel, Anderson, and RSR. You can call it a day, but you are encouraged to end the ride at Temescal Brewing, where the food truck of the day is Alma y Sazon (on IG @almaysazonllc), which makes vegan tacos and tamales and is run by immigrant women. Temescal Brewing is also around the corner from MacArthur BART.

Bring enough fuel to last. Lunch is at the end.

We meet at 9:45. Roll at 10:00. Please check the BART schedule. (Ferry times are inconvenient.) Bathrooms available at the Ferry Building

The ride climbs up the back side of the Marshall wall. Lunch will be at Point Reyes Station at about 27 miles in the former community park next to the Bovine Bakery. Bring or buy lunch in town. Then we will continue for another 14 miles back to Stafford Lake where we will have a celebration with goodies provided by those of us celebrating our 70th orbit around the sun. I have heard rumors of a 1954-themed trivia contest.

If you want to join us, but do a shorter flatter route, I have added a new route to the GPC library (see below) that will also stop at Point Reyes Station for lunch. However, this route WILL NOT have a leader so be sure to print out the cue sheet, or download the route to your device.

We'll go up Spruce to Grizzly Peak and Skyline, then turn right to head down Shepherd's Canyon and ride back through Montclair and via the Lake Temescal bike path. For those unfamiliar with the route, the first 7 miles are climbing and then the rest of the ride is mostly flat or downhill. The route does include a steep (13%) 2-block stretch (Roanoke Rd.) toward the end, but riders can avoid it if needed.

Come test and develop your cycling skills. Test your fitness level and get in a great workout by riding the Bears Loop as a time trial. Or, for new club members (or any GPC member), this is a good ride to find your pace as measured by GPC (see link https://www.grizz.org/rides/ratings.php).

The first rider is off at 10:01 and a rider a minute after that. 20% chance of rain cancels. Please arrive between 9:40 and 9:50 so that we can be ready to start on time. We will have refreshments at the finish, and gels/chews and bars at the start.

SUN JUL 21 5!/T/22.64 Mt. Tam + Muir Beach MTB/Gravel Adventure
Leader: Kenneth Pack     (209) 380-7904    text
Meet at 8:30 am for a 9:00 am start
Pre-registration

Ride up Mt. Tam from Mill Valley on Old Railroad Grade, which manages a consistent 5% grade for 1,800 feet with sweeping views of Marin. We'll break at West Point Inn and refill water, then drop Stagecoach Fireroad + Coastal View Trail all the way to Muir Beach, with some fun singletrack thrown in to get us off the highway.

From Muir Beach, we'll climb Dias Ridge + Miwok Trail back to Mill Valley, with lunch + beer at Super Duper Burgers (vegan + veggie options available).

This is a great cross-country MTB ride, with no technical features to speak of. Gravel bikes with 40mm tires or better are also a-ok, you'll just have to pick your lines a bit more and watch your speed on the descents. We will stop for water once, so please bring two full bottles or a hydration pack. Snacks, layers, and flat repair kits are also strongly encouraged.

Meetup at Mill Valley Depot at 8:30am for coffee at Equator. We'll roll out at 9:00am. This is a no-drop ride, with good options to bail early if you need to. We'll group up frequently at the top of climbs and bottom of descents. Should be back in Mill Valley about 1pm, but depends on our pace.

Route here. Please download to your phone/device if possible. Parking is available along Miller Ave, in the neighborhood, or at one of several public parking lots.

Route. This one will be most fun on a mountain bike, but adventurous gravel bikers are of course welcome to join. If you want to join and skip the tricky bits that is an option but you will be responsible for knowing your way. I marked this one as as TM to reflect that this will be a bit more advanced than the Wednesday Bartable mixed terrain ride, but if you are comfortable keeping up with that group you should do fine here as well. If we are doing well on time and everyone is up for it we might stop by the pump track or checkout some other trails in the park as well. We aim to be at Nicks pizza by 7:30pm. Bring lights for the ride back.

Please join me for what should be a cool and beautiful ride along the coast for my birthday. Yes, we’ll stop in Pescadero for artichoke bread! And yes, there will be cupcakes!

MJ was kind enough to re-route the end of my normal route bc we got intel that Higgins Road (descent at the end of the ride in years past) is un-rideable until August. So please update your Garmins! A little less climbing, a few additional miles - I guess it evens out. At least we don’t have to hike our bikes mid-descent!

It'll still be uncomfortably warm this weekend, so let's opt for this route around the bay! We start in front of the Ferry Building and make our way up to the Golden Gate with streets more than trails. On the Sausalito side we'll stop at Dunphy Park for bathrooms and snack.

From Piper Park (water and rest rooms), we ride the bike route to Fairfax. Then over White Hill to Woodacre, Nicasio, and Pt Reyes Station (mile 25) for snacks. Then south to Stinson Beach for lunch (mile 42). Continue south on Hwy 1 to the climb through Muir Woods and the descent into Mill Valley. Final climb over Camino Alto and return to Piper Park via the bike path.

Updated Route: RideWithGPS. We'll take Sir Francis Drake Blvd through the redwoods and Platform Bridge Rd to Pt. Reyes Station (rather than through Nicasio).

Join us for a chill T-pace version of the traditional Thursday evening road ride! Lights and a light jacket/windbreaker are strongly recommended, especially since the ride finishes around sunset.

The route does include a steep (13%) 2-block stretch (Roanoke Rd.) toward the end, but riders can avoid it if needed.

Come celebrate the birthdays of many of us born in 1954. The start is at Stafford Lake Park. When you enter the park, turn left after the entry kiosk and proceed to the parking lot at the end of the road. There is no entry/parking fee. Bathrooms and water are available at the start.
