TUE MAR 1 5!/TM/10 Tuesday evening South Park repeats (repeats weekly)

Leader: Elizabeth Crocker
Meet at 5:30 pm for a 5:35 pm start
Start Location: Berkeley - Spruce & Grizzly Peak Blvd - north side
Pre-registration
UPDATE:

Note: David Gould is the new co-leader for this ride. Please contact Anne or David with any questions. David: david@gould.io, cell: (206) 471-3272‬.

Please join us for a weekly Tuesday evening ride. This is a short ride but with a steep climb! Meet at the water fountain at Spruce/Grizzly Peak. We'll head out along Wildcat Canyon to South Park Rd. From there, we'll climb to the top of South Park once or twice (e.g. we’ll climb S. Park, descend and climb again if the mood strikes us). South Park is closed to cars, which makes it perfect for winter riding. If we complete 2 round trip ascents up South Park, expect ~10 miles and about 1,800 feet of elevation gain. This is a great workout!
NOTE: it will be dark by 5:30 in mid Nov, so this ride is mostly in dark. Come with bright front and rear lights (and make sure they work). 20% chance or greater of rain cancels the ride. Please contact ride leaders with any questions.
https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/2742955390 (this route shows 3 ascents up South Park, we’ll only do 1-2 ascents. Thanks to Nick Umemoto for the route and inspiration!)

Leader: John Hershberger     (510) 495-5504    text
Meet at 9:30 am

Due to wind and chance of rain, Wednesday looks like a better day for riding. Mark is not leading this week.

Go west, if you seek good air quality and elephant seal viewing. Starting in Nicasio we'll ride to San Geronimo and then Sir Francis Drake to Olema and Bear Valley. Pick up lunch in Inverness Park and carry it out to the Historic Point Reyes Lifeboat Station at Chimney Rock. We'll check out the elephant seals from the overlook near chimney rock.

See the route on RideWithGPS.

WED MAR 2 2/T/45 Wed Ride - Lakes Hennessey–Berryessa Loop
Leader: Jim Clara     (510) 387-1255    text
Meet at 10:00 am for a 10:15 am start
GPC Route: Hennessey - Berryessa Loop
Start Location: St Helena - Lake Hennessey boat launch
Pre-registration

We will meet at the boat launch parking lot at Lake Hennessey on Hwy 128 at 10:00 am, but we will not park there. Park on the roadside just past the boat launch. There is probably an open restroom at the boat launch parking lot. The last time I did this ride was two years ago—pre-Covid—pre-Hennessey fire.

We will ride east on 128 to Lake Berryessa for lunch at Oak Shores Day Use Area, and return via Pope Valley. The ride is 45 miles and not very hilly, although there are a couple of long climbs. Bring your lunch, drinks, snack!

To get to the ride start, go through Napa to Silverado Trail and north on Silverado Trail to Hwy 128 (Sage Canyon Rd). Turn right and go 3 miles and not far past the boat launch parking area to park off the road on the left. It’s nearly a two hour drive…

Please pre-register!

Rain cancels. You can also join our web forum and check the forum archives for the current information or contact Mark Sapiro at (415) 388-8910.

SAT MAR 5 0/0/0 Bike Maintenance Workshop
Leader: Narita Leong     (626) 497-3197    text
Meet at 9:45 am for a 10:00 am start
Start Location: Sports Basement, Berkeley
Mandatory pre-registration

Berkeley Sports Basement Parking Lot (Holiday Party venue). We have access to the site from 10AM-2PM, but I anticipate wrapping up around noon.

The structure of this workshop will be short rotating, hands-on stations. Topic leaders will do a quick ~5 minute concept presentation and then participants will be working on their own bikes for ~20 minutes thereafter. We hope to have small group coaching within this format, but this is not a free tune-up; it is a platform to learn some maintenance and be better prepared for mechanicals.

We are very appreciative of those volunteering to lead topics and hoping to have multiple leaders in the same topic station to manage group size and spread the knowledge.

Topics:

  • Checking Tires (pressure, changing flats, using CO2, using patch kit)
  • Chain (cleaning, lubrication, reason for slips, how to fix if the chain falls off)
  • Brakes (tension adjustment, when to change, bleeding for disc systems)
  • Derailleurs (barrel adjustment)
  • Handlebar (taping, repair tips)

Possible Additional Topics:

  • Wheel Maintenance (broken spokes, wheel truing)
  • Bottom Bracket Maintenance
  • Shimano Di2 Adjustments

Bring your bike, your tools (spoke wrench, torque wrench, tire levers, etc), favorite products, and I’m sure we will have a fun, social, productive time. Should it rain we can move it indoors to the community center (masks required and no food/drink).

The route has been modified on Tuesday Mar 8 9:00 pm. If you have previously downloaded the route, please update!

This ride starts in nearby Rockville, but extends up into the Napa Valley as far as Lake Hennessey. We'll stop for a snack at Silverado Market (mile 21) and have lunch at Turtle Rock (mile 48). The lunch stop is a bar without much in the way of food, so I suggest buying lunch at the first stop and carrying it to the second. There just aren't any other options in the area.

Park in the back of the Rockville Bike parking lot, not in front of the businesses. Please pre-register if you can. Faster riders are welcome if they don't mind waiting for regroups. Faster riders should also feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first.

Start Location: San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center
Pre-registration

From Marinwood to Tomales via Nicasio and Chileno Valley, return via Hwy 1. This longer version of the ride comes into Tomales from the back side using Alexander, Fallon Two Rock, and Middle Roads.

There are some shorter options. You can start your ride in Nicasio to save 20 miles for the day. We should pass through there around 10:15. Also, if you are having trouble keeping up, you can skip the turn onto Alexander and ride straight into Tomales for the lunch stop. That saves about 4 miles. Please review the map ahead of time and be prepared to navigate this change on your own if you think you might want to do it.

Pre-registration is appreciated. Faster riders are welcome if they don't mind waiting for regroups.

We'll start when everyone who arrives by the meeting time is ready. If you arrive after the meeting time, you may have to chase. You can probably catch us at our regroup in Nicasio, or at the Cheese Factory.

Start Location:
St Helena - Lake Hennessey boat launch

This ride is co-listed with Golden Gate Audubon, with Cathy Bleier as co-leader--trip details and mandatory registration can be found at https://goldengateaudubon.org/event/fostercity-coyote-bike-march-2022/. We are limiting the number of riders, so don't delay registration.

Start Location:
Sports Basement, Berkeley

The route has two long climbs (first through Inverness up a dirt trail on Mount Vision (1100ft), second on the road up Mount Vision (1200ft) with a decent on trails to return to the start, Sandwiched in the middle is an out an back to the ocean on a trail called Estero. Perhaps the most beautiful vista over the ocean I've seen in the Bay Area.

If you've been meaning to join for the weekly Tuesday evening South Park ride, now's your chance! Please join us for the final Tuesday evening ride of the season. This is a short ride but with a steep climb! Meet at the water fountain at Spruce/Grizzly Peak. We'll head out along Wildcat Canyon to South Park Rd. From there, we'll climb to the top of South Park once or twice or 3 times (e.g. we’ll climb S. Park, descend and climb again). South Park is closed to cars, which makes it perfect for winter riding. If we complete 2 round trip ascents up South Park, expect ~10 miles and about 1,800 feet of elevation gain. This is a great workout!

We'll go out for dinner immediately after the ride to celebrate a great winter of riding South Park (dinner location TBD, in Berkeley). Please sign up for the ride by Monday 3/14 evening if possible so ride leaders will know numbers to expect for dinner.
Since clocks changed on 3/13, it will be light for the full ride. But please bright front and rear lights (and make sure they work) for ride home after dinner. 20% chance or greater of rain cancels the ride. Please contact ride leaders with any questions.
https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/2742955390 (this route shows 3 ascents up South Park, we’ll do 1-3 ascents. Thanks to Nick Umemoto for the route and inspiration!)

Vacaville to Winters CCW Loop
Start Location:
Lagoon Valley Park
Pre-registration

This ride on nearly empty two lane roads through orchards and along side irrigation ditches is a March favorite: not too hot, not too windy, not too hilly, just right.

Bathrooms and pay parking at ride start. There is lunch available in Winters, but most riders bring their own. I bring two water bottles.

Please preregister.

There is an alternative route (700 ft more climbing and 5 miles longer) for those who need it.

Rain cancels. You can also join our web forum and check the forum archives for the current information or contact Mark Sapiro at (415) 388-8910.

We'll ride out and back on Mines Road for a total of 70 miles, which you can shorten to 60 by stopping at the junction rather than continuing to the elbow. The Junction Cafe will not be open, so bring your own lunch to eat at their picnic tables. We can probably get water at the fire station, but bring two bottles just in case. The start location has rest rooms and water.

[RWGPS route] GPC takes a page out of the Grasshopper Adventures Series! The first half of this ride is road, and the second half is dirt. All dirt is on public county roads. 32mm+ tires recommended. Food, water, and restrooms available at Mile 22.

This is not a no-drop ride. We'll be riding at T-pace, which is based on The Bears Loop, a paved road ride, so average moving speed will probably be slower than 10-12 mph, but effort will be about the same.

This is Day 1 of 2 for Mendo Mixty, a weekend of camping and mixed terrain riding in Mendocino. We're camping at Clear Creak SP. MJ and Fletcher have reserved Campsite #73 in Kelsey Creek Campground. Everyone is responsible for their own lodging and transportation; feel free to coordinate amongst yourselves. Riders are welcome to ride one or both days, or choose your own adventure! We will try to eat dinner together on at least Saturday night.

San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center
