Ride past the Cheese Factory and up and over the Bolinas Ridge to Marshall for lunch. Return via Highway 1 to Pt Reyes Station for coffee and treats before returning to Nicasio. Please print your own cue sheet, if you need it (https://www.grizz.org/routes/detail.php?id=28).

Current forecast high in Nicasio is 76°F, but only 60°F in Marshall, so be prepared.

This ride often has a faster group (more M pace) and a regular TM group. The groups come back together frequently at regroups and lunch. Faster riders should also feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first, please.

THU JUN 23 3/TM,M/78 Duros West - Tomales the long way
Leader: Mark Nienberg     (510) 812-9312    text
Meet at 9:30 am
GPC Route: Miller Creek to Tomales (long version)
Start Location: San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center
Pre-registration

From Marinwood to Tomales via Nicasio and Chileno Valley, return via Hwy 1. This longer version of the ride comes into Tomales from the back side using Alexander, Fallon Two Rock, and Middle Roads.

There are some shorter options. You can start your ride in Nicasio to save 20 miles for the day. We should pass through there around 10:15. Also, if you are having trouble keeping up, you can skip the turn onto Alexander and ride straight into Tomales for the lunch stop. That saves about 4 miles. Please review the map ahead of time and be prepared to navigate this change on your own if you think you might want to do it.

There is often a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch.

We'll start when everyone who arrives by the meeting time is ready. If you arrive after the meeting time, you may have to chase. You can probably catch us at our regroup in Nicasio.

Meet at 8:45 am for a 9:00 am start
GPC Route: Bike to Bridge to BLTs to Boat to Beer
Start Location: Oakland Ferry Terminal in Jack London Square
Pre-registration

Join us for a fun first Ride from Oakland's Jack London Square up the Bay Trail and across the Richmond - San Rafael Bridge, down to Sausalito for lunch (BLTs) at Dunphy Park, across the Golden Gate Bridge to the San Francisco Ferry Terminal, ferry Boat back to Jack London Square, and end the ride with a Beer at Original Pattern Brewing!

Encouraging pictures of the Bs along the route!

This is a NO DROP T-pace ride (fun first!), much of the route is on shared use paths, though there are some tricky street sections, and careful navigation is required at several points. While quite flat and gradual overall, the biggest challenge (and reason for the 2 terrain rating) is climbing out of Sausalito up to the Golden Gate Bridge.

LOGISTICS:

Meet at the Oakland Ferry Terminal (10 Clay St. in Jack London Square) ready to Bike!

  • BART Stations, Lake Merritt and 12th / Oakland City Center, are both a few bikeable blocks from the start / finish.
  • Parking is available at the 101 Washington St. Garage and is free with validation of your paper parking slip when leaving the ferry.

Lunch options include BLTs from Sausalito Gourmet Deli (or your favorite sandwich), bringing your own, or other places near Dunphy Park.

We will aim to catch the 2:30pm or 3:30pm ferry Boat back to Oakland.

  • Ferry fares are $4.50 with plastic or mobile Clipper Card (recommended), or $5.75 at the terminal / onboard (cash or credit).

Option to join the leaders for post-ride Beer at Original Pattern Brewing (outside seating, Taiwanese-style Bao & Noodles available to snack on)!

Shorten the ride to about 55 miles by parking in Nicasio and joining us as we turn left from Lucas Valley onto Nicasio Valley Road, probably about 10:15. Another option is to skip the out-and-back climb of Mt. Vision after lunch, which saves about 10 miles and lots of climbing.

Please pre-register!! The leaders don’t have cell reception in Nicasio, so everything done there is on paper.

The weather forecast predicts hot in the East Bay, so let’s go back to Marin for moderate temperatures. And let’s do one of our favorite routes, the standard version of Marshall Loop from Nicasio. Ride past the Cheese Factory and up and over the Bolinas Ridge to Marshall for lunch. The Marshall store is not open on Wednesdays so bring your lunch to eat while sitting by Tomales Bay (water is not available).

Final climb over Camino Alto and return to Piper Park via the bike path.

See the route on RideWithGPS. We may take the more complicated, but nicer bike route at the beginning to avoid San Anselmo.

Come out and enjoy the long summer days! We hope you will join us for a chill T-pace version of the traditional Thursday evening road ride! We'll go up Spruce to Grizzly Peak and Skyline, then turn right to head down Shepherd's Canyon and ride back through Montclair and via the Lake Temescal bike path.

The route does include a steep (13%) 2-block section toward the end, but it's easy to avoid if anyone prefers.

Let's ride across the Bridge to China Camp! This is a road bike ride (all paved), approximately 49 miles and about 1900ft of elevation gain. We'll ride counter clockwise around China Camp. After passing China Camp, there's a steep 16% grade short climb (that's why there's a !). Regroups are tentatively at Shimada Friendship park in Richmond (bathroom/water) , west side of Richmond San Rafael Bridge, China Camp point picnic area (break with restrooms and water), and east side of Richmond San Rafael Bridge. Please bring enough food for the entire ride as there are no planned food/restaurant stops.

Meet at EC Plaza BART West side of BART tracks: https://goo.gl/maps/h1wYh6i8fyCgHfWJ8

Miller Creek to Tomales (long version)
Start Location:
San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center

GPC Route:
Bike to Bridge to BLTs to Boat to Beer
Start Location:
Oakland Ferry Terminal in Jack London Square

Pat R (in absentia) (others ?) with our annual ride from Valley Ford through Occidental to Duncans Mills for lunch and birthday treats with a return along Hwy 1. The basic ride is about 40 miles with an optional 7 or so miles along Austin Creek and back up Cazadero Hwy. On return along Hwy 1, there is an optional steep climb up Bay Hill Rd.

Bring lunch or buy lunch in Duncans Mills. There are pizza and sweets at the Gold Coast Coffee and Bakery where we have lunch or you can buy a sandwich across the road at the general store.

Bring layers for the ride along the coast.

We'll ride to Olema via Nicasio Valley Rd and Sir Francis Drake, then on to Inverness Park to pick up lunch, which we will carry to Hearts Desire beach. Optional climb of Mt. Vision after lunch. Return through Pt Reyes Station.

Here is the route on RideWithGPS.

There is often a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. Faster riders should feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first. We'll start when everyone who arrives by the meeting time is ready. If you arrive after the meeting time, you may have to chase.
