WED FEB 1 5!/TM/21 Wednesday Night Tilden
Leader: Fletcher Stump Smith     (415) 212-8451    text
Meet at 5:10 pm for a 5:15 pm start
Start Location: El Cerrito Plaza BART
Pre-registration

This ride is based off the Tuesday mixed terrain ride from last season with a few modifications to avoid the worst of the mud. Expect there to still be some mud, but as of this past weekend the trails I have chosen were all Rideable. Bigger tires will do better. We are taking lower big springs rather than quary for better water drainage, so expect some short rocky descents. Also note the start is moved to El Cerrito Plaza Bart by the greenway. Make sure to bring lights bright enough to see by as we will be riding in the dark on unlit trails for most of the ride. I upped the pace to TM because I want to keep the group close together and avoid long regroups.

THU FEB 2 3/TM,M/66 Duros West - Rockville to Winters
Leader: Mark Nienberg     (510) 812-9312    text
Meet at 9:30 am
GPC Route: Rockville Winters loop
Start Location: Rockville Bike shop
Pre-registration

We will ride a 66 mile loop up Pleasants Valley to Winters for lunch, then back via Lake Berryessa and Wooden Valley. All the climbing is bunched in the second half of the ride.

From the south, take Hwy 80 and take the Suisun Valley/Pittman Rd exit. From Oakland or east of the hills Hwy 680 to Hwy 80 is probably faster. Go left on Suisun Valley Rd. After about 1.7 mi go left on Rockville Rd. The bike store is on the left. Park all the way in the rear of the lot, not in front of any of the stores.

There is often a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. Faster riders should feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first.

Leader: Mark Bauer     (510) 508-3546
Meet at 5:20 pm for a 5:30 pm start
Start Location: North Berkeley BART
Pre-registration

(Note that Mark Bauer is the new co-leader for this ride!) Please join us for a weekly Thursday evening ride. This is a short ride but with a steep climb! We’ll head up Virginia St and Spruce to Spruce/Grizzly Peak for our first regroup, then head out along Wildcat Canyon to South Park Rd. From there, we'll climb to the top of South Park once or twice (e.g. we’ll climb S. Park, descend and climb again if the mood strikes us). South Park is closed to cars, which makes it perfect for winter riding. If we complete 2 round trip ascents up South Park then back to N Berkeley Bart, expect about 2,300 feet of elevation gain. This is a great way to stay in shape over the winter!

NOTE: This is a night ride. Come with bright front and rear lights (and make sure they work). 20% chance or greater of rain cancels the ride. Please contact ride leaders with any questions.

WED FEB 8 1/LT to TM/46 or 27 Wed Ride - Deb's Diversions: Delta Birding
Leader: Phil Morton     (510) 847-7651    text
Leader: Pat Greene     (415) 481-5469    text
Meet at 10:00 am
GPC Route: Delta Birding
Start Location: Isleton Main Street
Pre-registration

There is a public parking lot at the ride start in Isleton with a public restroom nearby. Lunch is on the deck at the Cosumnes River Preserve visitor center. Bring lunch or buy at the Subway located just after crossing under Interstate 5 at Thorton Rd near the Chevron station. Historic Locke and Mel's Mocha & Ice Cream at Walnut Grove are worthwhile side adventures, but the main seasonal attraction is the birds: Sand Hill Cranes, and large numbers of geese and other waterbirds--bring binoculars for best viewing. Major birding sites include Staten Island Rd, the marsh across from the Cosumnes Visitor Center, and Desmond/Bruceville Roads. Dress for a chillier ride start than the Bay Area (and for standing around looking at birds), but expect similar temps later (58-60). It is rarely wind free in the Delta, but forecasts are for 8-10 mph or less.

In order to maximize birding time, Pat will start near the beginning of Staten Island road, where there is a parking lot and seasonal portapotty. If you want to start at this site, please register for the ride, and e-mail Pat. All riders please register ahead of time. Cell phone service may be sketchy out there for some of us.

THU FEB 9 3/TM,M/78 Duros West - Tomales the long way
Leader: Mark Nienberg     (510) 812-9312    text
Meet at 9:30 am
GPC Route: Miller Creek to Tomales (long version)
Start Location: San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center
Pre-registration

From Marinwood to Tomales via Nicasio and Chileno Valley, return via Hwy 1. This longer version of the ride comes into Tomales from the back side using Alexander, Fallon Two Rock, and Middle Roads.

There are some shorter options. You can start your ride in Nicasio to save 20 miles for the day. We should pass through there around 10:15. Also, if you are having trouble keeping up, you can skip the turn onto Alexander and ride straight into Tomales for the lunch stop. That saves about 4 miles. Please review the map ahead of time and be prepared to navigate this change on your own if you think you might want to do it.

There is often a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch.

We'll start when everyone who arrives by the meeting time is ready. If you arrive after the meeting time, you may have to chase. You can probably catch us at our regroup in Nicasio.

Start Location: Esposti Park, WIndsor

UPDATE:

We are ON! NOAA weather forecast is for a high of 74*! Bring your layers (the morning could be chilly) and your sunscreen. It could be the perfect ride on the perfect day. Let's make it so.

Celebrate President's Day with a great ride through the Sonoma County wine country. This is the revamped route that the Wednesday riders (remember: Wednesday riders have all the fun) use following the demise of the Jimtown Store. Instead of starting and ending in Healdsburg, we now start in Windsor and work our way to Healdsburg for lunch on the town green. Route details: Head east on Shiloh Road, take Faught Rd to Chalk Hill. Skip Jimtown and head into Geyserville. Take Canyon Rd to Dry Creek, and Yoakim Bridge. West Dry Creek and Westside into Healdsburg. Back out on Westside and Wohler Bridge to return with Mark West Station Road. Start at Esposti Park has bathrooms and plenty of parking. Bring your bike in good condition, lunch or money to buy in Healdsburg, and hopefully your sunscreen as we start to enjoy more sunshine. Solid TM pace, but faster or slower riders are all welcome if you are comfortable navigating on your own. Download the route to your preferred device or print your own cue sheet -- leader will not have them available at the start. 20% or greater chance of rain will cancel -- contact leader by 8:30 that morning (text is best) if you are in doubt, and of course check this website for future updates. Pre-registration is appreciated. Let's ride!

This ride is based off the Tuesday mixed terrain ride from last season with a few modifications to avoid the worst of the mud. Expect there to still be some mud, but as of this past weekend the trails I have chosen were all Rideable. Bigger tires will do better. Note the start is moved to El Cerrito Plaza Bart by the greenway. Make sure to bring lights bright enough to see by as we will be riding in the dark on unlit trails for most of the ride. I upped the pace to TM because I want to keep the group close together and avoid long regroups, but should be similar to regular Tuesday ride in terms of pace.

This weekly ride often tours through West Marin, but sometimes travels to Napa, Sonoma, or Livermore, depending on the season. Meet at 5:20 pm for a 5:30 pm start

UPDATE:

The ride is canceled for today 2/23 due to 70% chance of rain. See you next week!

UPDATE:

Update posted 7:30am Sat. Due to current weather, delaying the ride start by at least one hour -- that is, to 9:30 or later. Check for next update, approx 8:30-8:45.

Ride through the springtime-green East Bay countryside on a flat-and-rollery route to downtown Livermore where we will eat lunch. Optional 2nd food/drink stop on the return. For the 92 mile version, be at Spruce and Grizzly in Berkeley, ready to ride, by 08:30 sharp. For the 80 mile version, meet us on the Camino Pablo southbound byway at the "To Ardilla Rd" intersection, here: www.grizz.org/rides/starts.php?id=171. Be there, ready to ride, by 09:05. Easy street parking is available at both locations. The Camino Pablo location is a short ride north from Orinda Bart. If you take Bart, be on the eastbound train that arrives at Orinda at 08:54.

Here is the route: ridewithgps.com/routes/38639175. No paper cue sheets provided; please load or print your own. Note: the ridewithgps route is subject to minor revisions until early Friday evening, so don't load or print until then.

We expect it to be a pretty solid TM pace.

Preregistration is much appreciated.

Forecast for Saturday is currently sunny but cool (dress warmly!). Update, 6pm Friday: Forecast is not so good as before. Possible showers in the morning. Check for further updates in the morning. If rain dictates, we will delay the ride start and shorten the route. For info, pre-register or email me.

Rockville Winters loop
Start Location:

Delta Birding
Start Location:
Isleton Main Street

Join the club's virtual monthly business meeting at 7:00 pm. Optional social time from 6:45 pm to 7:00 pm. Check your email for an announcement with the agenda and details of how to join the meeting.

Miller Creek to Tomales (long version)
Start Location:
San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center
