Meet at 9:00 am for a 9:15 am start
GPC Route: Solvang Five Canyons
Start Location: Solvang - Royal Copenhagen Inn
Pre-registration
Depending on reports of conditions on Drum Canyon Road, we may revise the ending of our ride to return via Alisos Canyon instead. Here is the revised route.
See nearly all that Solvang has to offer in one big loop. See Longhorns, Llamas, Buffalo and Davey Crockett! We will have an elegant lunch in Los Alamos, before tackling the horribly rough Drum Canyon Road, then taking relatively smooth roads back to the start.
A cheerful adventurous attitude is encouraged. Strong navigation skills or riding with a buddy who knows the route can be very helpful. Print your own cue sheet if needed. Please sign in online if you would like the leader to keep some track of you; there may not be a paper sign in sheet at the ride start. Two full water bottles and some nutrition make good sense. The standards listed in the Rider Guidelines on our website always apply.

GPC Route: Solvang Four Canyons Loop
Start Location: Solvang - Royal Copenhagen Inn
Pre-registration
See the best of Solvang and get to lunch quicker. Miss the roughest climb that I have ever done, Cat Canyon. After lunch, we tackle the second roughest road in the area. The even shorter ride possibility is to turn around at Fess Parker Winery, and return nearly the same way (26 miles).
Meet at 10:00 am for a 10:15 am start
Start Location: Fruitvale BART
Mandatory pre-registration
A leisurely welcome to the end to our cold wet winter. We'll cycle around ML King Regional Shoreline, along the bay to San Leandro, back, and around the airport to the shore and canals of Bay Farm Island. Bring lunch (or buy lunch, but line can be slow).
Leader: Mark Nienberg (510) 812-9312 text
Meet at 9:30 am for a 9:45 am start
GPC Route: 3/4 Jalama
Start Location: Jalama Road pullout
Pre-registration
Due to high wind prediction we will ride this route starting in Lompoc instead. 3/4 Lompoc route
Join us for this classic route to Jalama Beach. This 53 mile version requires a car shuttle, which we arrange at Happy Hour the night before. We drive out to the start on Jalama Road, then ride to the beach. After lunch we ride all the way back to Solvang. There are several other options which can be discussed at Happy Hour. A full out-and-back from Solvang would be about 77 miles. The shortest version is an out and back to Jalama Beach from Highway 1, and it still has plenty of climbing.
Meet at 9:30 am for a 9:45 am start
GPC Route: 3/4 Jalama
Start Location: Jalama Road pullout
Pre-registration
Due to high wind prediction we will ride this route from Lompoc instead.
A remote road to the Coast. By remote I mean a full sized mountain lion slowly crossed the road right in front of me on a recent trip. This is a beautiful route with just one hill, each way. This ends at Jalama Beach where you can get a famous Jalama Beach Burger. Or you can get something healthier and make it back. The crux of this route is learning to say Halama, not Jalama. This route follows the first 28 miles of the 3/4 Jalama route linked above, starting at the pullout on Jalama Beach Road.
A cheerful adventurous attitude is encouraged. Print your own cue sheet if needed. Please sign in online if you would like the leader to keep some track of you; there may not be a paper sign in sheet at the ride start. Two full water bottles and some nutrition makes good sense. The standards listed in the Rider Guidelines on our website always apply.

Meet at 9:00 am for a 9:15 am start
GPC Route: Mt. Figueroa Adventure Loop
Start Location: Solvang - Royal Copenhagen Inn
Pre-registration
This is the big one, Mt Diablo on steroids, maybe similar to Mt Ventoux, except with much steeper pitches! But this is your lucky day, it's not so steep from the East Side, just far more rustic. Be ready for a mile of dirt, some slippery stream crossings, lots of broken rock on the road, and continuous steep grades. Once you reach the summit, you then descend down the Westside, pass the Neverland Ranch, and have lunch at Panino in Los Olivos. Then you can take Ballard Canyon or flatter roads back to Solvang.
Two full water bottles and some nutrition makes good sense. The standards listed in the Rider Guidelines on our website always apply.
Bring extra water and food on this ride!

Meet at 9:00 am for a 9:15 am start
GPC Route: Mt Figueroa out and back
Start Location: Solvang - Royal Copenhagen Inn
Pre-registration
Due to road closures and possible wind, we will do a reverse four canyons loop instead.
This is the big one! Mount Diablo on steroids, or similar to Ventous except much steeper and rougher. After the Neverland Ranch the grade kicks up ... to about 17%, and stays there for a while. It's brutal, but thankfully somewhat stepped. The scenery is stunning, and so are the climbs! The summit is not real noticeable but don't go more than 25 miles looking for it. After the summit, we will descend back down the same route to Los Olivos for lunch at Panino. Return to Solvang via Alamo Pintado or Ballard Canyon. If you plan on joining us, please let us know in advance, you should attend the happy hour / route planning meeting the night before, or check in with us, so that you are aware of any changes to the route, start time or start location. 30% PoP or temperatures above 90 and below 30 may cancel the ride.

Worried about Figueroa today? I'm not! Join me for a casual tour around the valley floor. Find your Happy Valley place! We'll be splicing together bits and pieces of roads that are not done on our other rides. We will do lunch at La Panino in Los Olivos. There are many bailouts. Rain may cancel. All of the common sense club guidelines apply. Route on RideWithGPS.

GPC Route: Pozo Loop
Start Location: Santa Margarita Community Park
Pre-registration
Note the later start time since we will be driving to get to the start. Accessed on our travel day between Solvang and Paso Robles, Pozo Loop offers up stunning scenery! There is good parking at the Community Park. Bring two full water bottles, as the water at the Ranger Station still says non potable. We will watch the temperatures, we just did this ride and it was too hot (80 in town, 96 on bike). We generally eat at "The Porch" restaurant in town after the ride.

GPC Route: Peach Canyon w/ Las Tablas shortcut
Start Location: Adelaide Inn, Paso Robles
Pre-registration
Take it easy on the transition day. Drive north to Paso Robles, park at the Adelaide Inn, and roll at the leisurely time of 11 AM. Head south through town and hop on Green Valley Road (Hwy 46), take Oakland to Tablas, and then up the serpentine Willow Canyon, before taking a right on Peachy Canyon, where all the peach orchards look a lot like vineyards. Once you have summitted Peachy Canyon, you have an incredibly awesome curvy, roller coaster like descent back toward town, and a surprise! Bring two water bottles because it could be hot by that time of day. All the standard club guidelines apply, 30% chance of rain or snow may cancel.

Meet at 5:25 pm for a 5:35 pm start
Start Location: El Cerrito Del Norte BART
Pre-registration
We’re riding road today, since I heard that Wildcat is still bad and requires hiking in some spots.
[RideWithGPS route] The ride has evolved with RTO (Return To Office). With some people going into the office a few days per week (generally Tuesdays and Thursdays), we are moving this ride to Wednesdays.
Join us for a social mixed terrain ride. We recommend tires wider than 32mm and gearing easier than 1:1. This is a T-pace ride with some steep and rocky climbs. Due to the early sunset, we will keep regroups short. Bright lights and a jacket. Riders are welcome to peel off at any point to get in more riding or head on home. Pictures from past rides: [1][2][3] E-bikes are not allowed on this route's trails.
Meet us at the southeast corner of Cutting Avenue and the Ohlone Greenway [Google Maps street view] We have a hard roll time of 5:35pm.

GPC Route: Parkfield Earthquake Ride
Start Location: Mission San Miguel Arcángel
Pre-registration
This ride starts in San Miguel. Please park across the street from the Mission. This is an out and back to the North American Plate. Just across the fault is the rustic town of Parkfield that serves up a great lunch. There is only one hill on this ride and you hit it both ways. Rain may cancel.
Leader: Wendell Doman (415) 515-6761 text
Meet at 9:30 am
GPC Route: Rockville to Lake Hennessey
Start Location: Rockville Bike shop
Pre-registration
This ride starts in nearby Rockville, but extends up into the Napa Valley as far as Lake Hennessey. We'll stop for a snack at Silverado Market (mile 21) and have lunch at Turtle Rock (mile 48). The lunch stop is a bar without much in the way of food, so I suggest buying lunch at the first stop and carrying it to the second. There just aren't any other options in the area.
There is often a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. Faster riders should feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first.
Park in the back of the Rockville Bike parking lot, not in front of the businesses. Please pre-register if you can.

Want a fun weekend away? Join me on Saturday, April 8 to ride this super fun, gorgeous loop out of Plymouth, CA. The Sierra Century used to be held by the Sacramento Wheelmen but the organized event IS NO MORE! However, the route lives on - I did it for the first time last year with some friends, and absolutely loved it!
Plymouth is far away! You may consider staying the weekend in Gold Country - Sutter Creek is nearby and so, so cute! Also I may be able to accommodate you in Auburn - but my space is limited and I can't promise anything (and honestly, Auburn is still about an hour away from Plymouth).
Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38562912
Meet in Plymouth at the dirt parking lot of the park on Main Street: Plymouth City Park
Be ready to roll at 9AM. We'll have a picnic after the ride in the park - the deli next door makes their own potato chips which locals lovingly refer to as "Plymouth Crack" because, yes, they're that good. Yummy treats, scenic roads, new sights, a fun challenge - it's all I personally ever want in a ride! Hope to see you there. Please reach out if you have any questions.

Then it is up the long, quiet climb of BoFax Road, down to Alpine Dam, and into Fairfax. Finish with the short steep climb over Fawn Drive. A bit shorter than our usual rides, but with enough hilliness to make up for it.
There is sometimes a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. Faster riders should feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first.

Start Location: Daly City BART

Here's a video of Planet of the Apes. The descent starts at 1:07 and gets rockier at 1:43. I don't expect people to bomb this, but I also don't expect people to walk most of it. If you think you'll walk most of it, consider the 100% pavement Devil's Slide alternate route. Bring lights and wear bright colors for visibility, as there is a busy section on CA-1 that's a one-mile, 5% climb with no shoulder.
If you want to get a sandwich from Garden Deli Inn, I strongly recommend you order online for a pickup time of 12pm to help us save some time.
[RWGPS route] Join us for an adventure, accessible by public transit. We'll meet at Daly City BART, roll through suburban sprawl, parks, and bike trails before climbing Planet of the Apes, the old, dilapidated Highway 1, ride through costal towns, turn inland to climb Tunitas Creek, and skirt Crystal Springs Reservoir, and then jog to Millbrae BART. This is timed for the BART train that arrives from Richmond at 8:56am.
Note: Wider tires are recommended for Planet of the Apes; it gets pretty rocky on the descent. If you don't want to do this, you can take the road (and Devil's Slide) and wait for the group at Moss Beach.
Restrooms in Pacifica (Mile 10), lunch at Half Moon Bay (Mile 26), water and restrooms at the Bike Hut (Mile 35), water and restrooms in Woodside (Mile 50).
Riders looking for something shorter can go to Redwood City Caltrain from Woodside, cutting off ~13 miles.

Ride around the Bay via Richmond - Golden Gate - Dumbarton Bridges. It will be a mix of urban, industrial, and Bay front riding. 115 miles is a long ride; however, there is less than 3K ft of climbing according to Ride With GPS. Going counter-clockwise from Oakland allows for virtually no climbing the last third of the ride. There are some "gravel trails" between San Mateo Bridge and San Leandro. I have done it on my road bike with 28 tires with no problems. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38637299?privacy_code=mX1sVoCxF87ngTNt If you haven't done this ride, you will see parts of the Bay Area you haven't seen before, or only driven by at highway speeds.
There are three food stops planned. First at Round House Cafe at the south end of GGB (@ 33 miles). Second for lunch at La Corneta Taqueria in Burlingame (@ 58 miles). Third at Hippies Brew in Union City (@85 miles).

Depending on reports of conditions on Drum Canyon Road, we may revise the ending of our ride to return via Alisos Canyon instead. Here is the revised route.

GPC Route:
3/4 Jalama
Start Location:
Jalama Road pullout

GPC Route:
3/4 Jalama
Start Location:
Jalama Road pullout
GPC Route:
Mt. Figueroa Adventure Loop
Start Location:
Solvang - Royal Copenhagen Inn
Pre-registration
This is the big one, Mt Diablo on steroids, maybe similar to Mt Ventoux, except with much steeper pitches! But this is your lucky day, it's not so steep from the East Side, just far more rustic. Be ready for a mile of dirt, some slippery stream crossings, lots of broken rock on the road, and continuous steep grades. Once you reach the summit, you then descend down the Westside, pass the Neverland Ranch, and have lunch at Panino in Los Olivos. Then you can take Ballard Canyon or flatter roads back to Solvang.
Two full water bottles and some nutrition makes good sense. Mt Figueroa out and back
Start Location:
Solvang - Royal Copenhagen Inn
Pre-registration

This ride starts in nearby Rockville, but extends up into the Napa Valley as far as Lake Hennessey. We'll stop for a snack at Silverado Market (mile 21) and have lunch at Turtle Rock (mile 48).

We'll go up Spruce to Grizzly Peak and Skyline, then turn right to head down Shepherd's Canyon and ride back through Montclair and via the Lake Temescal bike path. Lights and a jacket are recommended. We will have multiple regroups and stick to a T pace on this ride.
The route does include a steep (13%) 2-block section toward the end, but it's easy to avoid if anyone prefers.
