Leader: David Brown     (510) 508-4215    text
Meet at 8:45 am for a 9:00 am start
Start Location: Petaluma - Lucchesi Park

A hilly loop along some beautiful Sonoma and Napa county backroads.  Mt Veder rd and Trinity/Dry Creek rd in particular have some quite steep sections, both up and down.  Road quality is dubious in many sections.  There are some highways miles early on this route, but they all have good shoulders.  We'll have a rest stop on the outskirts of Napa and lunch in Glen Ellen.  This route is experimental as I've not ridden every road on it myself before; an adventurous spirit (as well as good climbing legs) are recommended.

SUN DEC 11 4!/TM/48 Wine Country Loop with Pine Flats Climb
Leader: Kurt Doelling     (510) 427-4205    text
Meet at 10:00 am
Start Location: Jimtown Store
UPDATE:

Its been pointed out that this ride takes place in and above the Alexander Valley as opposed to Sonoma Valley-KD

Pine Flats Road leaves Jimtown and climbs 3,000 feet above the Sonoma Valley.  Its a famous out and back climb in cycling circles.  We'll start at the Jimtown store at 10:15 AM and do a 20 mile warm up loop around the flats of Sonoma Valley before returning to Jimtown store for a snack/coffee.  From there we will start the climb.  Fair warning, I have only done this climb to 1,600 feet.  To that point, its a beautiful and moderately graded climb with road conditions that are generally good and fabulous views of the valley.  Beyond that the terrain is new to me.  From the maps: At 2,000 feet there is a 2+ mile flat section before a final climb of 1,000 feet.  In this final climb there is a 3/4 mile section that looks extremely difficult.  The good news is that you can do as much as you want before turning around for the easy ride back to your car.

Because of the nature of the ride, we will only do it in the event of excellent weather.  Please RSVP to me if you plan on riding and check email for ride status the evening prior.

TUE DEC 13 1/T/20+ The December Full Moon Ride
Leader: Maria Teresa Garcia De La Noceda
Leader: Arthur Bloch
Leader: Steve Mendelson
Meet at 5:30 pm for a 5:40 pm start
Start Location: North Berkeley BART
UPDATE:

THE RAIN IS CANCELLED DUE TO A WEATHER FORECAST OF 30% CHANCE OF RAIN, THIS EVENING, ACCORDING TO NOAA (Last update: 12,13,16; at 12:50pm).

Join us on our December Full Moon Ride along the coast of the Berkeley, and Richmond Marinas. According to ancient beliefs “the highest energy occurs at the Full Moon, and this is the most powerful time for magical workings”, and based upon this belief we would like to use this energy, as we ride our bicycles along the coast, as a tool to materialize our most secret desires. It will be “completely dark” on our return, thus bring some good front and rear lights for “safety”, although it is possible that on a clear night, after the moonrise, we, most likely, will be able to use “only” the moonlight to lighten our paths on the trail. We will take the most pleasant and safest route to the Bay Trail and beyond (Delaware, 7th St., Hearst, 4th St., Addison, bicycle-pedestrian bridge ...). A fresh, savory meal will be awaiting for us at the Luca Cucina Italiana, 2057 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley, 510.649.9718, where we will have an oblation for Selena to show her our gratitude. Bring a road bike, mountain bike, commute bike … the bike that it is going to make you feel more at ease at night. We will ride as a Group. Dress warm, wear bright colors … After consulting the Oracle … SELENE, the Moon Goddess, has manifested her desire for us to have the ride tonight; she assured us that she will extend her Silver Veil over the sky, bringing us a lot of fortune … Please read the article featured on this month Wheel Truth, Cycling Under the Spell of The Full Moon. Meet at North Berkeley BART, at 5:30pm, roll at 5:40pm. Please check the GPC Web Ride Listing for a weather update up to 48 hours before departure, and call the leaders, if the weather is dubious, the night before.  We are looking forward to seeing you!

The first 7.5 miles all pace groups ride together at a social pace...you'll ride with club members you might not see for the rest of the month. After that, we split into five separate pace groups. The pace groups are named after musical tempi. Click on the tempo for the exact Route.

All routes are pretty hilly. More information about this ride, including route details, is posted on-line at http://www.grizz.org/rides/assr.php Rain cancels. If weather is questionable, or for other questions, contact ASSR Coordinator John Buenfil. Leaders TBA.

Develop your night time group riding skills. Route is Grizzly and Skyline as far as Roberts; regroup and reverse route. It will start light, but become full dark, so bring descent-worthy front and rear lights which you have set to solid — not blinking. Reflective gear is encouraged — anklebands, etc. Contact me in advance if you have questions about night riding. Inclement weather (rain; significant threat; or starting temps below 45 degrees) postpones. More ride info is at http://www.abriz.net/gpc/rad.html including current raindate status. Please read that page in full before your first RAD ride.

Ride repeats on the Third Saturday of each month.

Ride out to Pinole, along San Pablo Dam Road and Pinole Valley Road.  Our goal is to get some riders who may cringe at riding the hilly 'bears route'; but who would like to do about 30 miles to maybe get back into riding again. Planned destination is the Bear Claw Cafe, a quaint, old-timey family bakery in downtown Pinole, with a visual historical treat in the alcove next to the building. Faster riders are welcome, too...just save me a Bear Claw! Bring a friend. Optional lunch at Orinda Square (Petra's Greek Cafe, Nation's burgers, Subway, Peet's and Starbucks).
