Meet at 9:00 am for a 9:15 am start
Start Location: Orinda BART NW corner of parking lot
The first 7.5 miles all pace groups ride together at a social pace...you'll ride with club members you might not see for the rest of the month. After that, we split into five separate pace groups. The pace groups are named after musical tempi. Click on the tempo for the exact Route.
- LT (Larghetto) about 23 miles.
- T (Adagio) about 50 miles.
- TM (Andante) 34 miles.
- TM (Allegretto) 65 miles.
- M (Presto) 75 or more miles.
All routes are pretty hilly. More information about this ride, including route details, is posted on-line at http://www.grizz.org/rides/assr.php Rain cancels. If weather is questionable, or for other questions, contact ASSR Coordinator John Buenfil. Leaders TBA.

If the ASSR was rained out, then we will ride the usual Presto route of the month, but with no stop at Orinda BART and no all-club social segment. Your meetup choices are: (1) Spruce St & Grizzly Peak Blvd in Berkeley (meet 8:30am sharp, ready to ride; roll 8:35am); or (2) Wildcat & SPDR (be at the northeast corner, ready to ride, by 9:00am); or (3) arrive at Orinda BART on the 08:45 train, meet any other Prestos who were also on the train, and ride together to Wildcat/SPDR. If coming by BART, please RSVP so we'll know to wait a bit if the train is delayed.
This ride will happen only if the ASSR Presto was rained out (or significantly shortened) and if Sunday's weather is ok. To confirm, or if Sunday's weather is doubtful, contact ride leader by 9:00pm the night before — don't assume anything

Meet at 7:30 am for a 7:40 am start Rain Date: Sun Jan 22
Start Location: Pleasanton - Neal & Railroad Ave
Canceled due to rain forecast: 30% in the morning, 40% in late afternoon. Sunday's raindate won't happen either; the next rain system will be here.
This is the classic GPC Del Puerto loop from Pleasanton. A fabulous variety of terrain for riding, sightseeing, climbing (including one 1.5 mile steep pitch, hence the "!" in the listing), descending, pacelining (optional), and a bit of craft beer drinking too (also optional).
In 120 miles we'll traverse the Livermore Valley; ride out to the Central Valley; skirt around Tracy and Patterson; climb Del Puerto Canyon to San Antonio Junction; climb away from the Junction and zoom down Mines Road; and finally re-traverse the Livermore Valley back to Pleasanton. (Side note for those who have ridden that "other" bike club's route recently: We follow a classic, different, and IMHO better route through both valleys — including the historic Hwy 33 through Vernalis and Westley.) The route includes 3 rest stops. It has no shortcuts or bailouts. A shorter (100 mile) option is available, starting in Livermore, but for this you must RSVP to the ride leader. RSVP's are appreciated, in any case, for map count.
Be ready to ride at 7:35am — please arrive long enough in advance to get ready. Prompt 7:40am departure. Location: Pleasanton at Railroad Ave just north of W. Neal (between First and Main Sts). Nice public restrooms are nearby, one block south. Be prepared for chilly morning weather. Bring lights in case of a later than planned return. Sunset is earlier than you expect.
NWS PoPs 20% or more will likely postpone to Sunday. If weather is doubtful, contact ride leader by 9:00pm the night before or check the online listings for an update — don't assume anything.

Ride repeats on the Third Saturday of each month.
Ride out to Pinole, along San Pablo Dam Road and Pinole Valley Road. Planned destination is the Bear Claw Cafe, a quaint, old-timey family bakery in downtown Pinole, with a visual historical treat in the alcove next to the building. Faster riders are welcome, too...just save me a Bear Claw! Bring a friend. Optional lunch at Orinda Square (Petra's Greek Cafe, Nation's burgers, Subway, Peet's and Starbucks). https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14580950 Check out Social Biker Group on Facebook. Join free.

The route enters the Shoreline Trail at the end of 66th Ave (Zhone Way), with birding stops at the channel alongside the trail entry point and at the seasonal wetland at Garretson Point. The high tide will impact mudflat birding, but the seasonal wetland and bay side birding should be good, We will look for wintering duck and shorebirds, and we hope for rails at Arrowhead. Then we'll head over to Alameda. Depending on timing, we will stop for lunch/snack at Shoreline Center along MLK Shoreline or at the Elsie Roemer Sanctuary on Alameda. From Elsie Roemer there is a simple, direct route to Fruitvale BART, or we may ride back to Coliseum BART. Beginners welcome. Bring binoculars and lunch; wear warm layered clothes and helmets. Football takes a break for a week before the Super Bowl, so let’s go on a favorite rolling ride from Nicasio out to Drake’s Beach in the Pt Reyes National Seashore instead. We’ll start by taking in the Nicasio reservoir, cross over Platform Bridge and then head up Olema Hill to Pt Reyes before heading out Bear Valley Road and Sir Frances Drake to the coast for lunch (picnic tables and bathrooms available, sandwiches can be purchased at the excellent deli along the way). After lunch we’ll head back to Pt Reyes Station for an optional re-group at the Bovine Bakery before the short section left to Nicasio. Expect a few significant climbs and lots of rollers as we make our way out to the coast (not to mention a leg-cruncher short stretch to get back up to the main road from the beach). Leader generally rides at a fast TM pace; other paces welcome for those comfortable following a cue sheet. Develop your night time group riding skills. Route is Grizzly and Skyline as far as Roberts; regroup and reverse route. We will ride in full dark, so bring descent-worthy front and rear lights which you have set to solid — not blinking. Reflective gear is encouraged — anklebands, etc. Contact me in advance if you have questions about night riding. Inclement weather (rain; significant threat; or starting temps below 45 degrees) postpones. More ride info is at http://www.abriz.net/gpc/rad.html including current raindate status.

Let’s remember to celebrate and be thankful for the work of Dr. King as we roll on a classic Marin ride. Lots of miles, some challenging hills, and an excellent bakery. Bring snacks to get you through until our late-ride stop at the Bovine Bakery in Pt Reyes Station. TM pace but everyone comfortable in following a cue sheet is welcome. 30% chance of rain or better cancels – call leader by 9:00 that morning if in doubt.

Our goal is to get some riders who may cringe at riding the hilly 'bears route'; but who would like to do about 30 miles to maybe get back into riding again. Join free.

Come recover from your inauguration ball by joining me in this ride that features one of the bay area's best descents, one of its most famous climbs, and sandwiched betweeen them: lunch at The Buttery, which may be the best lunch spot (mile 30) for cyclysts in Santa Cruz. Note: your leader hasn't ridden the full route so bring a sense of adventure. This ride wouldn't be much fun in damp or cold weather so check status night before or morning of ride and please RSVP if you would like a route sheet. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/18073666

Finally, a clear sunny Saturday after all these rains. The creeks should be rushing — let's take a look. Berkeley, Sibley Park (RSVP if you want to meet us there at about 09:10am), Golf Course, Palomares (was closed by the storms, but reopened on Weds according to ACPWA.org), Sunol. Return via Dublin — Rigatoni's for a hot pasta lunch — always a great bike lunch and we haven't eaten there in years. Danville, St Mary's, Canyon, and return.
Route is here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/18710637. Sorry, I didn't have time to make paper maps, but I probably have some old paper maps with a similar route; let me know in advance if you'd like one.

We will cycle and bird our way to a high tide at Arrowhead Marsh occurring at ~11:50. Meet at 9:55 at Coliseum BART near the ticket machines (use BART trains arriving at 9:46 or 9:52 depending on your origin). This ride is co-listed with Golden Gate Audubon. Rain Cancels.

Nicasio
Bring water, lunch or money to buy, and clothing suitable for conditions. 30% or greater chance of rain will postpone to sometime in February.
