We'll roll along roads familiar to all Grizzlies -- Grizzly Peak, Skyline, Redwood to the golf course, and then back via Pinehurst, Skyline, Grizzly, etc.  Lots of hills as we all know, killer views, and good company.   Steady TM pace, with one rest stop at Sibley Park before continuing to the golf course.  No real lunch break, just bathrooms, water and at the golf course before retracing (mostly) our route home.  There may be snacks at the golf course, but don't count on it.  Back in time for at least a few late afternoon chores.  Rain?  Yes, it would cancel if we got that lucky.  But be prepared for warm temperatures once we drop down the other side of the hill.

WED JUL 4 4/TM/72 Mt Hamilton Out and Back BBQ
Leader: Jessica Jensen     (510) 508-6389    text
Meet at 9:00 am for a 9:15 am start
Start Location: Fremont BART

Looking for a 4th of July party?  Let's meet at Fremont BART for an out and back up Mt. Hamilton.  Then, let's head to my mom's house afterwards for a potluck BBQ and pool party celebration!  She lives less than 2 flat miles from Fremont BART.  Bring lunch and snacks for the ride, and bring potluck items along too for the after-party.  I'll have my mom meet us in the morning to take back any and all potluck items and party gear (including any swimsuits/towels/etc that you may want to change into, as well as obvious perishables and food/drink items).

Because it's a holiday, BART doesn't start running until later, hence the 9AM meet time (earliest BART train arrival to Fremont from the Oakland area).  I know most people would prefer an early start to beat the heat, but that early in the month, it doesn't usually get above the mid-80s in the South Bay, so let's cross our fingers that global warming doesn't hit us too hard!

Also, there may be some shorter/longer options depending on if other leaders want to jump on the party bus.  Contact me if interested in learning more about that or anything else really...

Meet at 9:00 am for a 9:15 am start
GPC Route: Half Moon Bay - Gazos Creek - Tunitas Creek Variations
Start Location: Half Moon Bay - Fire Station

Join me for one of my favorite routes (which was put together by one of my favorite peeps), on one of my favorite days (my birthday!).

Start off with the traditional and wonderfully scenic 20-mile roll down Hwy 1 for coastal views and a short visit to Pigeon Point Lighthouse, then a short sprint further south to Gazos Creek Road. Wax poetic on the gentle, lesser traveled spur up to South Fork Gazos Creek Road before rejoining Gazos Creek/Cloverdale Road to Pescadero to share a picnic lunch in the back yard of Norm's Market ("world famous" artichoke bread, sandwiches, pastries, coffees). Bucolic vistas meet nicely patched pavement along the pleasant but arduous climb up the old Stage Road with a (rolling) regroup in San Gregorio, continuing on Stage Road northward to Hwy 1. A quick and breezy descent along the highway to Tunitas Creek Road, regroup/refreshments at the Bike Hut and then up the flats and early climbs on Tunitas Creek Road until Lobitos Creek Road before cutting back toward the coast, sticking to back roads (Verde, Purisma Creek, and a final short, celebratory, leg-burning ascent up Higgins Canyon Road) with just enough rolling and flat miles on the home stretch back to Half Moon Bay to work out the lactic acid.

Start Location: Orinda BART NW corner of parking lot

Ride out to Pinole, along San Pablo Dam Road and Pinole Valley Road.  Our goal is to get some riders who may cringe at riding the hilly 'bears route'; but who would like to do about 30 miles to maybe get back into riding again. Planned destination is the Bear Claw Cafe, a quaint, old-timey family bakery in downtown Pinole, with a visual historical treat in the alcove next to the building. Faster riders are welcome, too...just save me a Bear Claw! Bring a friend. Optional lunch at Orinda Square (Petra's Greek Cafe, Europa Hof-Brau, Nation's burgers, Subway, Peet's and Starbucks). https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14580950.

UPDATE:

PoE will depart the usual firehouse at the usual time, 09:00 and do a usual ride (Skyline, Redwood, Castro Valley, Crow, Norris, Danville Blvd, Peet's, LM trail, Pinehurst (some connecting roads omitted)), hopefully with the usual peloton and some additions. TM if anyone is willing to hang back with your pace-limited leader.

Here's a map to guide you through this complicated route:

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/13339641

The PoE (Peloton of Elders) is TM for July while leader resolves some old-age health issues. However, the usual M-pace elders and youngers are quite welcome to come and ride at their pace. Check the online ride calendar Monday evening for the week's start location, route and rain updates. Despite the name, cyclists of all ages are welcome. Email leader with name, mobile, emergency #, and bike make/color in advance. This speeds up the signin process.

Meet and sign-in at 9:00, introductions at 9:15, then roll. The first 7.5 miles all pace groups ride together at a social pace...you'll ride with club members you might not see for the rest of the month. After that, we split into five separate pace groups. The pace groups are named after musical tempi: Largo, Adagio, Andante, Allegretto, and Presto. Click on the tempo for the exact route. More information about this ride, excluding route details, is posted on-line at http://www.grizz.org/rides/assr.php. Rain cancels. GPC Route:
Half Moon Bay - Gazos Creek - Tunitas Creek Variations
Start Location:
Half Moon Bay - Fire Station

GPC Route:
Orinda to Bear Claw Cafe
Start Location:
Orinda BART NW corner of parking lot

Check out Social Biker Group on Facebook. Join free.

UPDATE:

In keeping with leader's need for relatively flat routes, we'll start at the firehouse (Skyline at Snake and Colton, Oakland) at 09:00, go to Moraga, take St Mary's Rd or the LM trail, depending on construction, thence to Olympic, Tice etc to Danville Blvd, continue to San Ramon and the Norris Canyon area. Leader will turn around there and go back to Peet's in Danville for coffee, then return on the LM trail, etc. Others may want more hills and chose to take Norris etc to CV and back on Redwood.

About 48 miles.
