Start Location: Tilden Park - Island Picnic Area
Possibly the leader's favorite ride, this will be a modified North Century loop, starting from Island Rest Area. We’ll go out Wildcat and head north, but then turn and go over Pig Farm to avoid the refineries by going directly into downtown Martinez for a snack/coffee break before heading up the George Miller Trail. Then it's back on the traditional route for the climb up McEwen and beyond. Killer views, killer hills, and killer company if all you Grizzlies show up. No true lunch stop, so bring snacks, money for coffee or treats in downtown Martinez, water, flat repair tubes and tools, and clothing appropriate for the weather. Faster and slower riders comfortable at following a cue sheet are welcome, but leader generally rides at a fast TM pace. We'll start a bit early so as to avoid the late-afternoon heat. Meet at 6:30 pm
Oops! The "location' address is 15000 Broadway Ter, Oakland.
Since the invention of the inflatable bicycle tire 140 years ago (John Dunlop, Scotland), we cyclists have lived in fear of getting a flat. Conquer that fear! Jeff and Melarie will demonstrate several ways to quickly remedy a flat tire. You will get to fix one (or two) yourself! We’ll go through the various tools available and ways to keep your rubber-side always reliable. If you want, bring your own front wheel (not as messy as the rear), the tire-irons you use, and the pump you carry on your bike (if any).
Secure bike parking available, but I’m way up a hill, and the sun will be down by the time we end. 6 cars can park in the driveway; more parking on Gwin Rd ½ block up Broadway Ter. We’ll be sitting on comfy chairs in Jeff’s garage, so dress well if cold.

The pace groups are named after musical tempi: Largo, Adagio, Andante, Allegretto, and Presto. Click on the tempo for the exact route. More information about this ride, excluding route details, is posted on-line at http://www.grizz.org/rides/assr.php. Rain cancels. Meet at 6:30 pm
Location: 15000 Broadway Ter; Oakland
In 1885, John Starley invented the “Safety Bicycle.” Avoiding the “header” risk that plagued PennyFarthings, Starley’s bicycle required a chain to drive the wheel. And ever since, cyclists have had to know something about keeping that chain in working order.
Your chain has to be (relatively) clean, and well lubricated. We’ll discuss several ways to clean your chain, several ways to lubricate it, and when to replace your chain, turning the old one into jewelry. We’ll even show you how to wax a chain.
Secure bike parking available, but I’m way up a hill, and the sun will be down by the time we end. 6 cars can park in the driveway; more parking on Gwin Rd ½ block up Broadway Ter.

Bring water, snacks, etc.

GPC Route: Orinda to Bear Claw Cafe
Start Location: Orinda BART NW corner of parking lot
Ride out to Pinole, along San Pablo Dam Road and Pinole Valley Road. Our goal is to get some riders who may cringe at riding the hilly 'bears route'; but who would like to do about 30 miles to maybe get back into riding again. Planned destination is the Bear Claw Cafe, a quaint, old-timey family bakery in downtown Pinole, with a visual historical treat in the alcove next to the building. Faster riders are welcome, too...just save me a Bear Claw! Bring a friend. Optional lunch at Orinda Square (Petra's Greek Cafe, Europa Hof-Brau, Nation's burgers, Subway, Peet's and Starbucks). https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14580950. Meet at 6:30 pm
Location: 15000 Broadway Ter; Oakland
For the first time in 1937, you could ride the Tour De France with a derailleur equipped bicycle. Today, gear shifting is pretty popular on bicycles (just don’t tell the SF bike messengers!) With 30 or more speeds, shifting can be complex. We'll go over how to test your bike for proper shifting, how to adjust it to perfection, and repair tips for when that no longer works. Brakes are powered by the same cable-system, so we’ll discuss maintenance and use of brakes too.
Secure bike parking available, but I’m way up a hill, and the sun will be down by the time we end. 6 cars can park in the driveway; more parking on Gwin Rd 1/2 block up Broadway Ter.
We’ll be sitting on comfy chairs in Jeff’s garage, so dress well if cold.
Leader: Stephanie Clarke (510) 423-1873
Meet at 9:00 am for a 9:15 am start
Start Location: Fairfax Coffee Roastery
More killer climbing as the leader prepares for the hills of Spain. We’ll start in Fairfax, climb up to Alpine Dam, then up the Seven Sisters to Ridgecrest, followed by the descent of Panoramic Highway directly to Stinson Beach for lunch in the park. A quick roll along the lagoon will bring us to Bolinas-Fairfax Road and our return trip up and back to Fairfax. Post-ride recovery stop to be determined (the Scoop or the Café?). Meet at the Coffee Roastery in downtown Fairfax. Parking can be difficult, try the neighborhood up the road a bit near the fire and police station. Bring what you need, but especially a windbreaker in case the fog is in at the coast.

Meet and sign-in at 9:00, introductions at 9:15, then roll. The first 7.5 miles all pace groups ride together at a social pace...you'll ride with club members you might not see for the rest of the month. After that, we split into five separate pace groups. The pace groups are named after musical tempi: Largo, Adagio, Andante, Allegretto, and Presto. Click on the tempo for the exact route. More information about this ride, excluding route details, is posted on-line at http://www.grizz.org/rides/assr.php. Rain cancels. If weather is questionable, or for other questions, contact ASSR Coordinator John Buenfil. Leaders TBA.

Due to leader's injury (not bike related), PoE is cancelled for August and September.

GPC Route:
Orinda to Bear Claw Cafe
Start Location:
Orinda BART NW corner of parking lot

Start Location:
Fairfax Coffee Roastery
