Here is a link to the route, https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28683977
Billy Goats are the challenging hill climbs of SF Bay Area. A comprensive listing of Billy Goats is on the Almaden Cycling Touring Club (ACTC) website at https://actc.org/routes/bg/index.php#local?region=all.
A GPC Billy Goat Ride will be a friendly yet challenging and scenic ride with approximately 1K of climbing per 10 miles (more or less). Ride length will be 60 to 80 miles so we can get going and get back in a reasonable amount of time with 1 or 2 efficient stop times to rest & refuel. There will be regroups along the way to keep us togeather.
This month we'll start from the Warm Springs BART near the station entrance. I'll arrive on the 8:04 Train and be ready to roll by 8:15am. The ride is 67 miles with 6300ft of billy goats including Calavares, Palomares, Redwood & Pinehurst ending at the corner of Spruce and Grizzly Peak. There's a bail out at mile 40 at the Castro Valley BART Station. The 1st stop will be in Sunol and a second in Castro Valley. Feel free to email me at tdunscom@ix.netcom.com to let me know you're coming or have any questions. Here is the link to the route https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28620136.
Calaveras Road status: Acording to SFPUC, Calaveras Road is closed to all weekday traffic until Sept 30, but open on the weekends. If this information is not correct, there will be a Plan B. You can check with the ride leader ahead of time for more details.

SFPUC has decided that Calaveras Road will remain closed until November 3rd, therefore the ride will be modified. The new ride description: 5!/M/57 East Bay Hills Circuit starting at the corner of Spruce and Grizzly Peak. Meet time 8:05am for a 8:15 start. Notable climbs will include Grizzly Peak, Butters Canyon, Skyline, Redwood Road & Pinehurst which adds up to over 6k. We'll make an efficient snack stop at the Oakland Zoo picnic area where there are bathrooms and water. Suggest riders bring a snack so we can keep the stop to about 20 minutes. We should be able to make it back but there are several watering holes along the way if it's a warm day. 20% chance of rain cancels.

GPC Route:
Orinda to Bear Claw Cafe
Start Location:
Orinda BART NW corner of parking lot
Ride out to Pinole, along San Pablo Dam Road and Pinole Valley Road. Our goal is to get some riders who may cringe at riding the hilly 'bears route'; but who would like to do about 30 miles to maybe get back into riding again. Planned destination is the Bear Claw Cafe, a quaint, old-timey family bakery in downtown Pinole, with a visual historical treat in the alcove next to the building. Faster riders are welcome, too...just save me a Bear Claw! Bring a friend. Optional lunch at Orinda Square (Petra's Greek Cafe, Europa Hof-Brau, Nation's burgers, Subway, Peet's and Starbucks). https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14580950. Half Moon Bay - Gazos Creek - Tunitas Creek Variations
Start Location:
Half Moon Bay - Fire Station
Start with a scenic 20-mile roll down Hwy 1 to regroup and snack at Pigeon Point Lighthouse, then a bit further south to Gazos Creek Road then north to Pescadero. Leader will share artichoke bread for lunch in the back yard of Norm's Market (sandwiches, etc). Climb north up the old Stage Road with a (rolling) regroup in San Gregorio, continuing on Stage Road northward to Hwy 1. A quick and breezy descent along the highway to turn up Tunitas Creek Road, regroup/refreshments at the Bike Hut. Up the early climbs on Tunitas Creek Road until turning back toward the coast on Lobitos Creek Road. North on back roads (Verde, Purisma Creek, and a final short, celebratory, leg-burning ascent up Higgins Canyon Road) with just enough rolling and flat miles on the home stretch back to Half Moon Bay to work out any lactic acid. Multiple chances to shorten miles and climbing on your own. Print your own route sheet.
