Meet at 8:00 am
Two rides with 5 Epic Climbs; Complete 3 of the 5 climbs to qualify for the monthly raffle (see details).
South Bay - Bohlman, Montebello and Big Basin
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35786900
This South Bay challenge packs a lot of climbing in a relatively short distance with three out and backs to/from Saratoga Village. Parking is near the elementary school. Many places for a coffee and a pit stop in the Village before starting your first climb of Bohlman Road, the steepest climb of the day. You’ll be working hard on this climb so be sure to enjoy the views on the descent back to Saratoga. The next two climbs are less steep but both with spectacular views of the South Bay.
North Bay - Pine Flat and Ida Clayton
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35786444
These two climbs are fairly remote but both have beautiful views of the Alexander Valley and the North Bay. Unfortunately there are no convenience stores between them so plan on making your morning pit stop before getting to the parking lot at a Alexander Valley Elementary School. In fact bring plenty of food and water, keep some in a cooler in your car to stop and refresh and refuel between these two spectacular climbs. Pine Flat has nearly 3000 feet of climbing in 11 miles with beautiful views of Sonoma. After the first 2000 feet there’s a bit of a flat section before the final climb to the top.
Again, plan on stopping at the elementary school for a break and refueling before heading to Ida Clayton. It’s a scenic and low traffic 8 mile ride southbound on Hwy 128 before reaching Ida Clayton for a challenging 1800 foot, 4 mile climb. Like many roads in the North Bay, Ida Clayton is in poor condition so please be careful on the descent. The 8 mile ride back to your car is a nice way to end the ride.
For details on the monthly Challenge Ride Series please navigate to the New Rides Page - Challenge Tab. There you'll find details on the monthly raffle, the 30 - 40 or 50 climb patches and Epic Climb Jersey you can earn based on your accomplishments.
Keep Climbing!

Meet at 8:30 am
Start Location: Walnut Creek BART
Diablo dirt circumnavigation; a mixed terrain loop around Mt Diablo.
This route is inspired by the Mount Diablo Regional Trail but modified for bike and land access issues. The Trail is not fully completed but can be viewed on the following link.
https://www.savemountdiablo.org/activities/diablo-trail-map/
The planned route is challenging due to the remote nature (for the Bay Area) and the amount of climbing.
64 miles, 8300 ft elevation, ~42 miles are off-pavement and they contain the majority of the climbing
Approx mile markers of dirt sections are (2-32; 43.5-53.5; 57.5-59.5) see RWGPS link
Most of the dirt is 'typical' east bay fire road / double track (generally hard-packed surfaces but there are some rocky sections and a lot of cow-pocked trails). One tricky single track section (mile 13.5-16.5).
I will ride a rigid dropbar bike with 48mm knobby tires. A mountain bike would also be an appropriate tool. Low gears highly encouraged.
Water will be limited. Bring plenty of carrying capacity; watch forecast (hope for cool conditions). A water filter is advised. Mt Diablo SP has water issues - don't expect water passing the Rock City area (mile 10.5). The creek at mile 16.8 could be filtered, if flowing? Otherwise first water at mile 23 (@ backpack camp - should be filtered). Water at Round Valley trailhead mile 32.4. Water options likely around miles 42 and 47.5. Full supplies in Clayton (mile 54). No food options til mile 54 and 8000 ft of climbing. Bring plenty of calories for a long day.
Route highlights:
* Wall Point Rd
* Oyster Point trail
* Empire Mine Rd
* Views of Diablo from all angles
I have limited group size (5). In my opinion, this is a fairly challenging ride and I expect all riders to be self-sufficient and have means to navigate themselves. There are many bailout points via paved roads. Pace is hard to dictate. I did a similar version of this route in 2019 and it was a 12 hour day (I had some tire issues but it was a long day). I've listed this as TM but clearly the average pace will be slow but steady. Bring lights, just in case?...
Places that we'll visit:
Shell Ridge (WC)
Diablo Foothills (EBRPD)
Mt. Diablo (SP)
Morgan Territory (EBRPD)
Los Vaqueros (CCWD)
Round Valley (EBRPD)
Black Diamond Mines (EBRPD)
Lime Ridge (WC)
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35781089
Start / end at Walnut Creek Bart Station. Start time based on first train going east (arrives 8:26).
* I have ridden 95% of this route. I have checked all trails via respective land owners. If you see anything questionable or routing issues, please contact me directly.
** The trail closure (Miwok trail) in Los Vaqueros for Golden Eagles was lifted April 16.
*** I have tried to provide enough route details but please contact me if you have questions/concerns.

Meet at 9:15 am for a 9:30 am start
The start is at Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park, off Foothill in Pleasanton, your phone navigation app should get you there. The start has pit toilets, and the water was off recently. There is a short section of busy road, but for the most part this is a remote quiet road with little traffic and great pavement. Let’s catch a little last bit of spring while we can. We ride up Calaveras and roll back down, simple and nice. No maps provided, check Ride With GPS for a ride map. If you are late, be prepared to catch up. On the day of ride, text me if necessary. Bring water and food, which is not available, except near the start at Sunol. Oak trees, flowers and fading green grass, come on out

Meet at 9:30 am
Start Location: San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center
Duros West returns after a yearlong absence! Please read the GPC Covid policy regarding vaccinated-only rides. Bring your vaccine card or a facsimile (paper or electronic). Restricting the ride to vaccinated-only members allows us the freedom to ride closely together, talk while we ride, and form pacelines. Almost like pre-covid days, except we will be masked and distant when around the general public.
From our Marinwood start, we will ride to Nicasio, then the Cheese Factory, Hicks Valley, and over the Marshall Wall to Hwy 1. Lunch in Pt. Reyes Station before completing the loop. We will revise our usual regroup locations to avoid mixing with the public where possible.
Shorten the ride to about 42 miles by starting in Nicasio. We should pass through there about 10:20 or so.
Pre-registration is optional, but recommended so we don't all have to handle the pen and clipboard. Stronger riders are welcome if they are willing to wait at regroups.

Meet at 8:30 am for a 8:35 am start
Start Location: Berkeley - Spruce & Grizzly Peak Blvd - Plaza
Join Dara and Nick for a ride to the summit of Mount Diablo. With high temperatures forecasted for the low to mid 70s, it should be a great day for a road bike ride to the summit. A quick regroup at Sibley for water / restroom if necessary. From there we'll navigate our way through Moraga, Walnut Creek and Alamo before a regroup / water / bathroom stop at Oak Hill Park. Then we'll be tackling the climb up South Gate Road to the summit of Diablo. There should be water and rest rooms at the summit of Diablo. Meet at 9:35 am for a 9:50 am start
Start Location: Stoneridge Mall parking lot
Come ride a beautiful road that climbs to a plateau overlooking the Southern Alameda hills. In the spring, the green hills will remind you of Ireland. Now, with so little rain over the winter, they may or may not look so lush, but our legs will still appreciate the long climb and great roll among the dips and curves. Optional drop down and immediate back up the Calaveras Wall for anyone that wants more than the basic 2,600' of climbing -- for the rest of us we'll stop at the top of the Wall, do a U-turn and come back. Snack stop at Sunol corners on our return. Ride is timed to coincide with the arrival of the inbound BART train at 9:35 -- exit at West Dublin/Pleasanton Station, the 2nd to the last station on the Dublin-Pleasanton line. From the station it's a quick roll across the street to the mall parking lot where the group will be waiting. Solid TM pace. Faster and slower paces welcome -- for those out in front or off the back, be sure to have and follow a cue sheet or gps route. Note this is Not a no-drop ride, but it's also hard to get lost on this route. Bring water, snacks and money to buy what you need in Sunol. No bathroom at the start, so come early if hoping to use the restroom in the Mall. Ridewithgps route here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36075993

Meet at 9:45 am for a 10:00 am start
GPC Route: Mt. Tam birthday ride
Start Location: Mill Valley Safeway
Twenty years ago, GPC had a group of riders who were not fast, but we loved a challenge. The current ride schedule is dominated by TM and M rides. Here’s a ride for Turtles like us who like a challenge, but don’t ride very fast. (Faster riders are also welcome)
Start in Mill Valley, and ride to Fairfax first. The Scoop isn’t open yet, but the suburbs with their frequent stop signs and signals are dispensed with in the first 9 miles. Then it’s 14 mi to Rock Springs, or 17 miles to the summit, and part of the way back down before 'services’ and traffic. Make sure you have enough food and especially water for those uphill back roads. Let's ride together to Fairfax, a section with multiple cues. Then we’ll have strategic regroups during the rest of the ride.
Please print your own cue sheets. There are printable cue sheets and a ridewithgps link at https://www.grizz.org/routes/detail.php?id=143
If you can’t print a cue sheet or master the mandatory registration, contact Pat by Fri afternoon.

Meet at 9:30 am
GPC Route: Miller Creek to Tomales (long version)
Start Location: San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center
From Marinwood to Tomales via Nicasio and Chileno Valley, return via Hwy 1. This longer version of the ride comes into Tomales from the back side using Alexander, Fallon Two Rock, and Middle Roads.
There are some shorter options. You can start your ride in Nicasio to save 20 miles for the day. We should pass through there around 10:15. Also, if you are having trouble keeping up, you can skip the turn onto Alexander and ride straight into Tomales for the lunch stop. That saves about 4 miles. Please review the map ahead of time and be prepared to navigate this change on your own if you think you might want to do it.
Faster riders are welcome if they don't mind waiting for regroups.
Please read the GPC Covid policy regarding vaccinated-only rides. Bring your vaccine card or a facsimile (paper or electronic). Restricting the ride to vaccinated-only members allows us the freedom to ride closely together, talk while we ride, and form pacelines. You'll still need a mask for the lunch stop and other times when we are around the general public.
We'll start when everyone who arrives by the meeting time is ready. If you arrive after the meeting time, you may have to chase. You can probably catch us at our regroup in Nicasio, or at the Cheese Factory.
Leader: Nick Umemoto

Start Location:
Walnut Creek BART
* Wall Point Rd
* Oyster Point trail
* Empire Mine Rd

Rockville Winters loop
Start Location:
Rockville Bike shop
We will ride a 66 mile loop up to Winters for lunch and back via Lake Berryessa and Wooden Valley. All the climbing is bunched in the second half of the ride.
From the south, take Hwy 80 and take the Suisun Valley/Pittman Rd exit. From Oakland or east of the hills Hwy 680 to Hwy 80 is probably faster. Go left on Suisun Valley Rd. After about 1.7 mi go left on Rockville Rd. The bike store is on the left. Park all the way in the rear of the lot, not in front of any of the stores.
Please read the GPC Covid policy regarding vaccinated-only rides. Bring your vaccine card or a facsimile (paper or electronic). Restricting the ride to vaccinated-only members allows us the freedom to ride closely together, talk while we ride, and form pacelines. We'll start when everyone who arrives by the meeting time is ready. If you arrive after the meeting time, you may have to chase.

Start Location:
Stoneridge Mall parking lot

GPC Route:
Mt. Tam birthday ride
Start Location:
Mill Valley Safeway

Let's try something familiar-but-different and ride from Miller Creek to Cheese Factory (lunch) clockwise and return via Stafford Lake. Meet at 10:00 to clip-in at 10:15. Park on the street, not in the lot. There is a bathroom at the ride start. We will have a semi re-group at Nicasio for the porta potties. See the GPC Route (above) for the cue sheet and RWGS link.

GPC Route:
Miller Creek to Tomales (long version)
Start Location:
San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center
