SAT JUN 4 4/M/108 Mt. Hamilton late wildflowers; Visit the “new” Junction Café!
Leader: Mark R. Homrighausen     (510) 528-9339
Leader: Mark Abrahams
Meet at 7:45 am for a 8:00 am start
Start Location: Pleasanton - Neal & Railroad Ave

Join in looking for wildflowers that may still be blooming thanks to the late rains this spring, or at least enjoy the Mt Hamilton hinterland before it gets too hot.  We will also evaluate the decor and try out the fare in the remodeled, newly managed Junction Café and, most importantly (for some), see if they continue to have good beer on tap.

There are public restrooms 1 block south of the meeting place and coffee is available at Tully's, 2 blocks away at 349 Main St between W Angela and Abbie St.

At the base of the Calaveras Road “wall”, we'll continue down Calaveras to Ed Levin Park where we can make a quick stop for bathrooms if needed. Turning south on to Piedmont we will continue to a “for-sure” stop for water and restrooms at Alum Rock Park (mile 29) before continuing on to the Mt Hamilton climb.

We'll regroup at the observatory on Mt Hamilton’s summit (mile 52: vending machine sodas and snacks, water); and the Junction Cafe (mile 70) which probably continues to have hamburgers and the like. Other than these locations noted, no food or water are available on much of the route, so come prepared. You will be rewarded by finishing at the "milk store" in Pleasanton, which has cold chocolate milk and frostie cones!

This is a wonderful route but it should not be your first century.  Once you “fall off” the Calaveras Wall, Mr/Ms Dumpty, it’s a long haul with no shortcuts.  We will maintain the M pace but will not leave anyone behind without checking they can continue by themselves. Daylight extends from 5:48 to 8:27 pm, so lights should not be needed, but morning can be chilly at Pleasanton, sometimes in the high 40’s.

RSVP requested to Mark Homrighausen. his email address (preferred) or phone as listed.   Any chance of rain or high wind (see NOAA-NWS website, www.weather.gov for Livermore-Pleasanton) cancels - if any doubt, contact mark H. by 9pm Friday evening.

Start Location: SF - Ferry Building Front
UPDATE:

Karen won't be able to make it, so second leader is Jim O'Melia  jimomelia@rocketmail.com   (925) 262-3882

We'll ride along the Embarcadero, across the Golden Gate Bridge, down through Ft. Baker and Sausalito. Then we'll explore the marshes and coastline of Sausalito and Tiburon and wend our way around Paradise Drive to the Larkspur Ferry Terminal and take the ferry back to the start. Bring lunch (Sharks is closed, there may be somewhere nearby to buy food). Adult ferry fare from Larkspur is $10.50. Helmets required, rain cancels.

This ride is longer than our usual Leisurely Rides but it is possible to cut it short by taking the Tiburon or Sausalito Ferries back instead of going to Larkspur with the group.

Notice the unusually early start which is due to the Ferry Schedule.
