Leader: David Brown     (510) 654-7806

Start Location: North Berkeley BART

A fast paced but friendly ride, with regroups, for strong TM riders and relaxed/casual M riders.. SAT SEP 3 3!/M/115 The Geysers - A Supercentury
Leader: Mark Abrahams     (510) 524-1294
Meet at 8:00 am for a 8:10 am start   Rain Date: Sun Sep 4   2nd Rain Date: Mon Sep 5
UPDATE:

The actual route will be approximately 120mi, not 115mi as I had originally thought.  This is so that we can ride more quiet rural backroads and fewer highways and suburban roads. There are no major climbs other than the Geysers themselves (three humps with over 3000' climb total). But plenty of rollers. We'll see major wine country, and just before the harvest — but grape picking not allowed, sorry!

The Geysers are remote, rugged, and gorgeous. The road is very steep in places and has dreadful pavement for many miles — including more than a few stretches of gravel. Sound good? We'll ride there and back from Cotati via scenic Sonoma countryside. This is an ambitious, hilly ride. It should not be your first self-supported century. Be fully self-sufficient. Bring a rugged bike — should you break down, you'll be miles away from cell phone reception and rescue.

RSVP REQUIRED by 4:00pm Friday. Rider limit of one dozen — we don't want to overwhelm the stores where we stop — so RSVP early. Ride start location will be given to RSVP'ers only, sorry! Carpooling encouraged. Allow 55 minutes drive time from Berkeley.

Possible co-leader T.B.A.

SAT SEP 3 5/TM/49 A Labor Day Almost Century - Part One, North Loop Lasso
Leader: Stephanie Clarke     (510) 558-9614
Meet at 9:15 am for a 9:30 am start
Start Location: Orinda BART NW corner of parking lot

Let's put all of the miles we have in our legs by now to good use by riding a slightly modified version of the GPC Century over two days this holiday weekend.  We'll start with a North Loop lasso, beginning at Orinda BART, heading out Alhambra Valley directly into downtown Martinez, and then looping back via the George Miller trail and McEwen.  No ugly refineries for us, but still lots and lots of climbing, including that bear called McEwen.  Refreshment break at the Starbucks in downtown Martinez, but otherwise we'll keep rolling.  Riders should be comfortable riding at the listed TM pace, or in following a cue sheet.  Bring lots of water -- yes, it could be very hot over in those hills -- and tires in good condition with at least two spare tubes.

SAT SEP 3 5/LTMB/19 Individual Time Trial

September's Time Trial will start an hour later for reasons beyond our control. In October, we will revert to starting at 10:00

Leader: Stephanie Clarke     (510) 558-9614
Meet at 9:30 am for a 9:45 am start
Start Location: Orinda BART NW corner of parking lot

Hard to believe, but your leader has never actually ridden the South Century loop -- the lunch and great company with all those GPC workers has made stopping at that point the better option.  But today we complete our weekend almost century journey with the South Century Loop.  Bring water and snacks, since we may not stop for a break until we hit the golf course on the way back.  Meet at Orinda BART  - a bit later than Saturday, in honor of the holiday.  Leader rides at a fast TM pace, but everyone comfortable following a cue sheet is welcome.

SAT SEP 17 2/M102 Lunch in Livermore
Leader: Mark R. Homrighausen     (510) 528-9339
Meet at 8:00 am for a 8:10 am start
Start Location: Berkeley - Spruce & Grizzly Peak Blvd - north side

The new vernal pools on Manning are all dried up now but there is still more than enough to see out in the lovely North Livermore hinterlands during this lunch run to the shopping center at Portola Ave, that has a choice  of Starbuck's, Jamba Juice, Subway, and a Safeway.. We will probably have the usual brisk breeze blowing us to "L-more" with nary a pedal stroke, then the "wall of wind" to fight going home, all the better to burn off lunch and enjoy working together in pace lines, more or less. Other than that figurative “wall” it is probably the flattest ride you'll ever do in the non-urban parts of the Bay Area.  However it may start foggy but then become hotter than...well you get the idea, so bring layers.  We will also take a 3.8 mile RT side trip up Finley Rd. to admire the horses, old schoolhouse, and Calvary, and to bring our mileage into an honest three digits.   Later meet-ups get chancy but are possible.  RSVP for maps requested.

SAT SEP 17 3/LT/28 miles total Orinda BART to Pinole Bear Claw Bakery/Cafe
Leader: Jim O'Melia     (925) 262-3882
Leader: Andres Marin
Meet at 9:45 am for a 10:00 am start
Start Location: Orinda BART NW corner of parking lot

Ride repeats on the Third Saturday of each month.

Ride out to Pinole, along San Pablo Dam Road and Pinole Valley Road.  Our goal is to get some riders who may cringe at riding the hilly 'bears route'; but who would like to do about 30 miles to maybe get back into riding again. Planned destination is the Bear Claw Cafe, a quaint, old-timey family bakery in downtown Pinole, with a visual historical treat in the alcove next to the building. Faster riders are welcome, too...just save me a Bear Claw! Bring a friend. Optional lunch at Orinda Square (Petra's Greek Cafe, Nation's burgers, Subway, Peet's and Starbucks).

SAT SEP 24 2/TM/45 Best of Napa: Lake Hennessey & Lake Berryessa
Leader: Stephanie Clarke     (510) 558-9614
Meet at 9:45 am for a 10:00 am start
GPC Route: Hennessey - Berryessa Loop
Start Location: St Helena - Lake Hennessey boat launch

Riding the Tour of Napa Valley was a reminder of how great the riding can be up in the wine country. For this ride, we’ll omit the big climbs, but still enjoy some of the best of what Napa Valley can offer us roadies. Meet at the boat launch parking at Lake Hennessey (bathroom available). We will ride out to Lake Berryessa for lunch and return via Pope Valley. The ride is 45 miles and not very hilly although there are a couple of longish climbs. The store/deli at Spanish Flat should be open and available for purchasing snacks & cold drinks, though if you need a more substantial lunch you should bring it with you. The City of Napa prefers bikers to park at any of the numerous pull-outs along Hwy 128 and not park in the boat launch lot, so come a bit early to find a space close by and then roll over to the start (lots of pull-outs available). DIRECTIONS: To get to the start, go through Napa to Silverado Trail and go north on Silverado Trail to Hwy 128 (Sage Canyon Rd). Turn right and go 3 miles on Hwy 128 to the boat launch parking area on the left. 30% rain will cancel, if we get that lucky.

We have frequent regroups and usually stop for a real lunch, if it is available on the route. For this week's leader and route see our online calendar.

First rider is off at 11:01 and a rider a minute after that. The ITT is the only GPC ride where you have to be a member of the Club (insurance reasons), but you can join or renew right there at the start for $15/year. Pre-registration is appreciated.

September's Time Trial will start an hour later for reasons beyond our control. In October, we will revert to starting at 10:00

Ride repeats on the first Sunday of every month.

This is a good way to meet others in the club and for new riders to join in. No pressure to complete a long hilly ride. We'll keep this ride super friendly and on pace. Tandem and city bike friendly. Bring food or $ to buy and eat at the fabulous Draeger's Market or other great food spots in or around the plaza. All are welcome and anyone can join this ride. RSVP requested but not required to ride. Route Map and cue sheet at http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4189771

The first 7.5 miles all pace groups ride together at a social pace...you'll ride with club members you might not see for the rest of the month. After that, we split into five separate pace groups. The pace groups are named after musical tempi. Click on the tempo for the exact Route.

All routes are pretty hilly. More information about this ride, including route details, is posted on-line at http://www.grizz.org/rides/assr.php Rain cancels. If weather is questionable, or for other questions, contact ASSR Coordinator John Buenfil. Leaders TBA.

Hennessey - Berryessa Loop
Start Location:
St Helena - Lake Hennessey boat launch
