Meet at 8:00 am for a 8:10 am start Rain Date: Sun Oct 16
Start Location: Berkeley - Spruce & Grizzly Peak Blvd - north side
Have you ever seen the old wooden schoolhouse up Finley Road off Tassahara Road? It’s our own version of those dotted around Marin & Sonoma Counties and is even still in use! Or perhaps you have not yet seen what is on the back side of “our” beloved Mt Diablo? If seeing either piques your curiosity, come join this classic “coming round the mountain” ride. Meet 8:00 at Spruce and Grizzly Peak Blvd in Berkeley for an 8:10 departure. We'll ride via Happy Valley Road, downtown Walnut Creek, and over Lime Ridge to a stop in Clayton. After completing Morgan Territory Rd. we'll return via Tassahara Valley, Blackhawk Rd. through Roundhill CC, Livonia Park, taking the Lafayette-Orinda bike trail back to Wildcat Cyn. Rd. and the finish. The schoolhouse adds a mere two flat miles to the return. BYOLunch & snacks, since we’ll eat at the EBRPD parking area near the summit of Morgan Territory Rd. and the stops other than Clayton will have only water (unless we crash a kid’s birthday party at Livonia Park, as usual.) Daylight extends to 6:32 pm so a safety tail light could be handy. Chance of rain of 20% in NWS web site for Berkeley postpones to Sunday rain date. RSVP appreciated for map count. Sadly, no electronic maps will be available, Mark Homrighausen (email preferred).

Meet at 9:45 am for a 10:00 am start
Start Location: Orinda BART NW corner of parking lot
UPDATE: The 3rd Saturday ride, tomorrow at Orinda BART, is CANCELLED. Rain forecast keeps changing for POP (percent of precipitation) and safe is far better than sorry! No rain date scheduled for this ride.
Ride repeats on the Third Saturday of each month.
Ride out to Pinole, along San Pablo Dam Road and Pinole Valley Road. Our goal is to get some riders who may cringe at riding the hilly 'bears route'; but who would like to do about 30 miles to maybe get back into riding again. Planned destination is the Bear Claw Cafe, a quaint, old-timey family bakery in downtown Pinole, with a visual historical treat in the alcove next to the building. Faster riders are welcome, too...just save me a Bear Claw! Bring a friend. Optional lunch at Orinda Square (Petra's Greek Cafe, Nation's burgers, Subway, Peet's and Starbucks).

Then the hilly section up Alhambra Valley Road, Reliez Valley Road, Deer Hill Rd., Happy Valley Rd, La Espiral and down to Peet's in Orinda. After the first 40 miles we'll be riding close by several BART Stations for anyone who wants to shorten the course. GPC Route: Hennessey - Berryessa Loop
Start Location: St Helena - Lake Hennessey boat launch
Riding the Tour of Napa Valley was a reminder of how great the riding can be up in the wine country. For this ride, we’ll omit the big climbs, but still enjoy some of the best of what Napa Valley can offer us roadies. Meet at the boat launch parking at Lake Hennessey (bathroom available). We will ride out to Lake Berryessa for lunch and return via Pope Valley. The ride is 45 miles and not very hilly although there are a couple of longish climbs. The store/deli at Spanish Flat should be open and available for purchasing snacks & cold drinks, though if you need a more substantial lunch you should bring it with you. The City of Napa asks cyclists to park at any of the numerous pull-outs along Hwy 128 and not park in the boat launch lot, so come a bit early to find a space close by and then roll over to the start (lots of pull-outs available). DIRECTIONS: To get to the start, go through Napa to Silverado Trail and go north on Silverado Trail to Hwy 128 (Sage Canyon Rd). Turn right and go 3 miles on Hwy 128 to the boat launch parking area on the left. 30% rain will cancel, if we get that lucky.
A cue sheet is available at the Routes page, which you can print out. Please let the leader know if you need a printed copy.

Berkeley - Spruce & Grizzly Peak Blvd - north side

Develop your night time group riding skills. Route is Grizzly and Skyline as far as Roberts; regroup and reverse route. It will start light, but become full dark, so bring descent-worthy front and rear lights which you have set to solid — not blinking. Reflective gear is encouraged — anklebands, etc. Contact me in advance if you have questions about night riding. Inclement weather (rain; significant threat; or starting temps below 45 degrees) postpones. More ride info is at http://www.abriz.net/gpc/rad.html including current raindate status. Please read that page in full before your first RAD ride.

GPC Route:
Hennessey - Berryessa Loop
Start Location:
St Helena - Lake Hennessey boat launch
