Ride Schedule for August 2024
Leader: Mark Nienberg (510) 812-9312 text
Meet at 9:20 am
Start Location: Marin Civic Center S.M.A.R.T. station
Pre-registration
Meet at the Marin Civic Center S.M.A.R.T. station in time to catch the 9:32 am northbound train. Parking available along McInnis Parkway. Leave enough time to get yourself ready and to the platform. Alternatively, meet the group at 10:25 at the Downtown Santa Rosa station. We'll ride from Santa Rosa to Occidental, then Tomales for lunch. Then down the coast to Pt. Reyes Station and back to Marin Civic Center. See the RideWithGPS route. If you miss the train consider riding the route backwards until you see the group, probably around Tomales based on past experience.
SMART is free for those 65 or older with ID. Under 65 must pay with a Clipper Card or the SMART app. No cash. See the SMART bike policy. It appears that ebikes are permitted but trikes are not.
There is sometimes a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. Faster riders should feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first.

This ride is canceled. I've been having some foot pain so I'm not able to lead this ride. If you are still interested in riding I can help you coordinate with other riders.
Strava Route. Be prepared to climb with a total of 2750ft in 14 miles. Most of the time on dirt will be up hill sections; there will be some rocky parts. Ends on Shattuck with the opportunity for us to get food where ever we can find outdoor seating. Make sure to bring lights and layers.

Same route as before, 35mm tires or wider are recommended. Days are getting shorter now, bring lights for the ride back to BART. There are a few spots with trail damage to watch out for but it hasn't been a big issue. Conditions are dry, cracked, and dusty but it's better here than in a lot of east bay parks right now. Make sure your bike is in good working order and bring whatever you'll need to fix a flat or other simple mechanical issues. Also make sure your tires are properly inflated, if you aren't sure what pressure to run this is a good starting point.

GPC Route: Miller Creek to Marshall
Start Location: San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center
Pre-registration
A previous listing for this ride had a different route, but it has been changed due to construction closure of BoFax Road.
From our Marinwood start, we will ride to Nicasio, then past the the Cheese Factory, Hicks Valley, and over the Marshall Wall to Hwy 1. Lunch in Pt. Reyes Station before completing the loop.
Shorten the ride to about 42 miles by starting in Nicasio. We should pass through there about 10:20 or so.
Please pre-register if you can. There is often a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. We'll start when everyone who arrives by the meeting time is ready. If you arrive after the meeting time you may have to chase. You can probably catch us in Nicasio, where we will have a short regroup.

Join us for a chill T-pace version of the traditional Thursday evening road ride! We'll go up Spruce to Grizzly Peak and Skyline, then turn right to head down Shepherd's Canyon and ride back through Montclair and via the Lake Temescal bike path. For those unfamiliar with the route, the first 7 miles are climbing and then the rest of the ride is mostly flat or downhill. Lights and a light jacket/windbreaker are strongly recommended, especially since the ride finishes around sunset.
The route does include a steep (13%) 2-block stretch (Roanoke Rd.) toward the end, but riders can avoid it if needed.
We will have multiple regroups and will stick to a T pace (10-12 mph average over the course of the ride). This ride is a no-drop ride and we welcome folks new to the club!

RWGPS Another mixed terrain ride through Chabot. At around 3k feet of elevation this will be a bit less climbing than some of my weekend rides, but still be prepared to climb. A gravel bike with at least 35mm tires is recommended and make sure they are inflated at an appropriate pressure, see this helpful guild for more info. There will be at least one water stop but two bottles are recommended in case it gets hot. As listed this is mostly easy to moderate trails, but there will be a few options for those looking for some extra challenge. We will have frequent regroups to make sure the group doesn't get too spread out.

From the outskirts of Petaluma to Valley Ford, then Occidental. Coleman Valley from east to west is the highlight, then north on Hwy 1 with a return along the Russian River and Bohemian Highway. First break in Occidental (mile 20), lunch in Duncans Mills (mile 41), final break in Valley Ford (mile 59).
There is sometimes a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. Faster riders should feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first. Arrive by the meeting time if you don't want to chase.

*Note that leaders rotate weekly, and we will try to always have two leaders at each ride.
