SAT MAR 3 3!/M/117 The Geysers - A Supercentury
Leader: Mark Abrahams     (510) 524-1294
Leader: Elena Alarcon     (303) 915-3448    text
Meet at 8:00 am for a 8:10 am start   Rain Date: Sun Mar 4
Start Location: Cotati - Gravenstein Hwy Park-&-Ride (Westside)
UPDATE:

RAINDATED to Sunday. Saturday's forecast is 40%-50% chance of rain showers and thunderstorms in the ride area with snow levels down to 2000 feet – our route climbs to 2600 ft. Sunday looks clear and sunny.   ROUTE: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16233619.

The Geysers are remote, rugged, and gorgeous. The road is very steep in places and has dreadful pavement for many miles - including more than a few stretches of gravel. Sound good? We'll ride there and back from Cotati via scenic Sonoma countryside, most of it very rural and much of it beautiful wine country. This is an ambitious, hilly ride. It should not be your first self-supported century. Be fully self-sufficient. Bring a rugged bike - should you break down, you'll be miles away from cell phone reception and rescue.

Be ready to ride at 8:05am — please arrive long enough in advance to get ready. Prompt 8:10am departure. Location: Cotati, Gravenstein Hwy Park-&-Ride, just west of Hwy 101. Restrooms are nearby (but if you might need the restroom, please arrive 10 minutes earlier). Be prepared for chilly morning weather. Bring lights in case of a later than planned return. Sunset is earlier than you expect. RSVP's are appreciated, for map count.

NWS PoPs 20% or more will likely postpone to Sunday. If weather is doubtful, contact ride leader by 9:00pm the night before or check the online listings for an update — don't assume anything.

SAT MAR 10 1/LT/20 San Leandro Shoreline--Bike and Bird
Leader: Pat Greene     (415) 481-5469    text
Meet at 9:30 am
Start Location: San Leandro BART

Meet at the San Leandro BART Station outside the pay area on the west side of the station. This birding ride is co-listed with Golden Gate Audubon, with Cathy Bleier co-leading. Leaders plan to be on trains scheduled to arrive at 9:30 and 9:15 from SF and El Cerrito, respectively. If you drive to the start, be at the station ready to roll at 9:30. We will ride up to 20 flat miles of paved or packed dirt trails and city streets. Shortcuts are possible. Bring binoculars and wear layers to stay warm on this leisurely paced ride. Bring snacks, lunch and water; we won't pass places to buy. Bicycle helmets required. We will cycle urban streets from BART stations to the Bay Trail and then proceed to bike and bird the shoreline to view wintering ducks and shorebirds, as well as raptors and passerines. The Bay Trail south of Grant Ave is unpaved. If you are uncomfortable on hard-packed dirt, join us to Grant Ave (where you can retrace to San Leandro BART or escape to Bay Fair BART). We will plan to bird down to Winton Ave, or time permitting, all the way to the Hayward Interpretive Center.  Rain Cancels.  If the weather is questionable, send your e-mail address to Pat the night before the ride to receive news on the status of the ride.

Meet at 8:30 am for a 8:35 am start
Start Location: Berkeley - Spruce & Grizzly Peak Blvd - north side
UPDATE:

7:45pm Saturday: The Prestos rode today and had a pretty good ride if not quite full length.  There was no interest in a raindate ride as well, so this Presto Raindate Ride will not happen.

If the ASSR was rained out, then we will ride the usual Presto route of the month, but with no stop at Orinda BART and no all-club social segment. Your meetup choices are: (1) Spruce St & Grizzly Peak Blvd in Berkeley (meet 8:30am sharp, ready to ride; roll 8:35am); or (2) Wildcat & SPDR (be at the northeast corner, ready to ride, by 9:00am); or (3) arrive at Orinda BART on the 08:45 train, meet any other Prestos who were also on the train, and ride together to Wildcat/SPDR. If coming by BART, please RSVP so we'll know to wait a bit if the train is delayed.

This ride will happen only if the ASSR Presto was rained out (or significantly shortened) and if Sunday's weather is ok. To confirm, or if Sunday's weather is doubtful, contact ride leader by 9:00pm the night before — don't assume anything.

UPDATE:

Due to a requested route revision from Mark A., we will be going out Tin Barn Road to Stewart's Point. Conseqently mileage is ca. 123, not 106 as originally advertised. Among several advantages to this revised route, Stewart's Point gives us an otherwise lacking convenient lunch stop fairly close to the exact mid-point of the ride.

Here's the route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/17288801

There is no convenient lunch stop near the mid-point, so we will have a snack at Cazadero, 36 miles in, and a longer stop at the "C" store in Jenner (73 miles in)
The plan is to keep up a good pace and finish before dark. However, to allow for any unanticipated delays, please bring lights! Chance of rain of 30% postpones to Sunday rain date. Chance of rain 30% Sunday postpones to 11/4 rain date

Please RSVP for express check-in / map count.

The first 7.5 miles all pace groups ride together at a social pace...you'll ride with club members you might not see for the rest of the month. After that, we split into five separate pace groups. The pace groups are named after musical tempi: Largo, Adagio, Andante, Allegretto, and Presto. Click on the tempo for the exact route. More information about this ride, excluding route details, is posted on-line at http://www.grizz.org/rides/assr.php. Rain cancels.

Ride Is Cancelled. There are conflicting weather forecasts. It's too far to go to make a risky judgement call. The roads will still be there another time.

We'll warm up with a ride up West Dry Creek, and continue to Jimtown. After that: Pine Flat. It starts with a gradual climb for about 9 miles, and then gets steep for a about two miles. But since it's a out and back the bailout options are at your discretion. After a second regroup at the Jimtown store there's a fairly direct route back to the start. It is not known whether the Bear Republic Brewing Complany will be offering green beer to honor St. Patrick.  Like on many Sonoma County routes, there are otfen spectacular views. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/7499718

Start Location:
Berkeley - Spruce & Grizzly Peak Blvd - Plaza

Friendly but hilly workout & skills ride. We have two pace groups — M and B — each usually with its own leader (Mark and Matt). Either group will give you a sustained hard workout and will help develop your skills in climbing, descending, drafting, pacelining, positioning, and sprinting. Please read ride details and route description at http://www.abriz.net/gpc/tues-ride.html. RAIN CANCELS.  Sunset is still somewhat early in March, so BRING LIGHTS if you plan to do the 32 mile version.
