Ride Schedule for March 2019
Leader: Maria Teresa Garcia De La Noceda (510) 725-8405
Meet at 9:15 am
Start Location: Pleasant Hill BART
The weather forecast predicts partially sunny skies for this Friday, thus please join us on this cycling journey along the Iron Horse Regional Trail, and Danville Blvd to Peet's. From Pleasant Hill BART we will go to Danville, passing through the cities of Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Orinda, and Alamo.
The Iron Horse Regional Trail is a rail trail, a conversion of a disused railway track into a multi-use path, typically for walking, horse riding and bicycling. And Danville Blvd. is a very pleasant street with a very wide shoulder.
The landscape changes as we cycle from one city to the next. We will have different regroups along the way, and a lunch stop in Danville, at Peet's, a nice location with chairs, benches, and some eateries close by. We will return via the Iron Horse Trail.
This ride is co-sponsored with the Bicycle Section of the Sierra Club.

Meet at 9:00 am
Start Location: Pleasant Hill BART
According to the Wikepedia, “Mount Diablo is sacred to many California Native American people; according to Miwok mythology, and Ohlone mythology, Mt Diablo was the point of creation”. Its magnetism is still felt today, specially among hikers, and cyclists; this may be explained also by looking into its volcanic origin, since the upper portion of the mountain is made up of volcanic and sedimentary deposits.
The Ascent involves a steep climb, 6 ½ miles up to the Junction, therefore you need to feel comfortable about climbing, confident about descending, at ease with your bike.
Today, captivated for its majestic magnetism, we are going to start our bike ride from Pleasant Hill BART, and via some quiet, and flat residential streets we will arrive to North Gate Rd., where we will initiate our climb to the "Magic Mountain". At the Junction, we will REGROUP, and rest.
Then, we will turn around, and descend, retracing our steps, and stopping at the Ygnacio Valley Shopping Center, at 1881 Ygnacio Valley Rd., in Walnut Creek, to have some lunch … There are a variety of cuisines to choose from.
MEET: In front of the Pleasant Hill BART, at the fountain, at 9:00am SHARP; there is a San Francisco train arriving, at 8:50am

Meet at 9:00 am for a 9:15 am start
GPC Route: Morgan Territory from Pleasant Hill BART
Start Location: Pleasant Hill BART
Come join us for what should be a lovely ride through Morgan Territory - enjoy all the benefits of the recent rain with lots of greenery, streams, and beautiful overhead tree canopies as we roll through one of my favorite roads. There is no food at the top of Morgan Territory (mile 23), so bring snacks to give you enough fuel to reach our actual lunch stop at mile 37 or so in Danville.
Note that there is an option to ride some or all of Mt Diablo after the lunch stop. Some people may venture on to do this. At least one ride leader will NOT be doing this option, so you will be fully supported whichever option you choose.
Leader: Stephanie Clarke (510) 423-1873
Meet at 10:00 am for a 10:15 am start
Start Location: Nicasio
A favorite rolling ride from Nicasio out to Drake’s Beach in the Pt Reyes National Seashore. We’ll start by taking in the Nicasio reservoir, cross over Platform Bridge and then head up Olema Hill to Pt Reyes before heading out Bear Valley Road and Sir Frances Drake to the coast for lunch (picnic tables and bathrooms available, sandwiches can be purchased at the excellent deli along the way). After lunch we’ll head back to Pt Reyes Station for an optional re-group at the Bovine Bakery before the short section left to Nicasio. Expect at least two significant climbs – Olema Hill and the hill after Inverness leading up to the park – and lots of rollers as we make our way out to the coast, not to mention the leg-cruncher to get back up to the main road from the beach after lunch. We may be treated to huge bull elephant seals lazing away on the beach, and to Tule Elk on the hills near the coast. Leader rides at a fast TM pace; other paces welcome for those comfortable following a cue sheet. Meet in Nicasio at 10:00, roll at 10:15. Bring water, lunch or money to buy at the deli in Inverness Park, and a wind or rain jacket. 20% chance or more of rain will cancel; call the leader by 9:00 that morning if in doubt.

Cancelled due to rain. We’ll try again next month. Stay safe and dry out there.
Meet and sign-in at 9:00, introductions at 9:15, then roll. The first 7.5 miles all pace groups ride together at a social pace...you'll ride with club members you might not see for the rest of the month. After that, we split into five separate pace groups. The pace groups are named after musical tempi: Largo, Adagio, Andante, Allegretto, and Presto. Click on the tempo for the exact route. More information about this ride, excluding route details, is posted on-line at http://www.grizz.org/rides/assr.php. Rain cancels. If weather is questionable, or for other questions, contact ASSR Coordinator John Buenfil. Leaders TBA.

Orinda to Bear Claw Cafe
Start Location:
Orinda BART NW corner of parking lot
Ride out to Pinole, along San Pablo Dam Road and Pinole Valley Road. Our goal is to get some riders who may cringe at riding the hilly 'bears route'; but who would like to do about 30 miles to maybe get back into riding again. Planned destination is the Bear Claw Cafe, a quaint, old-timey family bakery in downtown Pinole, with a visual historical treat in the alcove next to the building. Faster riders are welcome, too...just save me a Bear Claw! Bring a friend. Optional lunch at Orinda Square (Petra's Greek Cafe, Europa Hof-Brau, Nation's burgers, Subway, Peet's and Starbucks). https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14580950. Pleasant Hill BART
EVENT CO-ORGANIZED: With the Bicycle Section of the Sierra Club

Morgan Territory from Pleasant Hill BART
Start Location:
Pleasant Hill BART

Start Location:
Nicasio

Route is in the club's ridewithgps route library. Listed as https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29597281
This Sunday, thanks to Clay's instigation and Kathy's refinements, several of us will be looking for wildflowers on San Antonio Valley and Mines roads after climbing up the west side of Mt Hamilton. We will, of course, stop for lunch at the Junction Cafe before hitting Mines Road (one of my favorite roads in the Bay Area!)
At that point there are many cutoff options but here is the full route as suggested by Kathy Kizer: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29327818
- Dublin Bart @~88 miles
- Castro Valley Bart @~100 miles
- Lake Merit @~120 miles
We will meet at the Warm Springs Bart station aiming for a rendezvous with the 907am train (several folks seem to be starting from Lake Merit... i will be boarding at North Berkeley @8am). We will shoot to leave around 920am and head to a Safeway a few blocks away to stock up on liquid before heading up the mountain.
RSVP is appreciated but not required. Feel free to text me at 510-367-3283. I will bring a small number of route sheets.
