Billy Goat Ride - Warm Springs BART back to Berkeley via Calaveras Road
Leader: Thomas Dunscombe     (510) 385-5859
Meet at 8:05 am for a 8:15 am start
Start Location: Warm Springs BART

Billy Goats are the challenging hill climbs of SF Bay Area.   A  comprensive listing of Billy Goats is on the Almaden Cycling Touring Club (ACTC) website at  https://actc.org/routes/bg/index.php#local?region=all.

A GPC Billy Goat Ride will be a friendly yet challenging and scenic ride with approximately 1K of climbing per 10 miles (more or less).  Ride length will be 60 to 80 miles so we can get going and get back in a reasonable amount of time with 1 or 2 efficient stop times to rest & refuel.  There will be regroups along the way to keep us  togeather.

This month we'll start from the Warm Springs BART near the station entrance.  I'll arrive on the 8:04 Train and be ready to roll by 8:15am.   The ride is 67 miles with 6300ft of billy goats including Calavares, Palomares, Redwood & Pinehurst ending at the corner of Spruce and Grizzly Peak.   There's a bail out at mile 40 at the Castro Valley BART Station.   The 1st stop will be in Sunol and a second in Castro Valley.    Feel free to email me at tdunscom@ix.netcom.com  to let me know you're coming or have any questions.  Here is the link to the route https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28620136.

Calaveras Road status: Acording to SFPUC, Calaveras Road is closed to all weekday traffic until Sept 30, but open on the weekends. If this information is not correct, there will be a Plan B. You can check with the ride leader ahead of time for more details.

UPDATE:

SFPUC has decided that Calaveras Road will remain closed until November 3rd,  therefore the ride will be modified.  The new ride description: 5!/M/57 East Bay Hills Circuit starting at the corner of Spruce and Grizzly Peak.  Meet time 8:05am for a 8:15 start.    Notable climbs will include Grizzly Peak,  Butters Canyon,  Skyline, Redwood Road & Pinehurst which adds up to over 6k.   We'll make an efficient snack stop at the Oakland Zoo picnic area where there are bathrooms and water.  Suggest riders bring a snack so we can keep the stop to about 20 minutes.  We should be able to make it back but there are several watering holes along the way if it's a warm day.  20% chance of rain cancels.  Here is a link to the route,   https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28683977

Pre-registration is closed for this ride. You can sign in at the ride start.
