Sat Aug 28, 2021 4!/T/45
Willow Creek, via Occidental and Moscow Road
Leader: Phil Morton     (510) 847-7651
Meet at 10:00 am
Start Location: Sebastopol - Ragle Rd/Covert Lane

From Sebastopol head out to Occidental, and down the Russian River to Hwy 1. Right after crossing the river near Jenner we turn left and ride along the south side of the Russian River for a bit. There are one or two rough spots, but the gravel is hard packed and not hard to ride. After 4 miles there's a gate across the road, and it gets really peaceful for several miles. It's not technical, since it was once a paved road. You can ride it on 25 mm tires, and probably 23 mm tires will also work.

There are one or two really steep bits, but they're short, and it's not a great hardship to walk them. We come out on Coleman Valley Road and continue through Freestone.
The route is in the club library at https://www.grizz.org/routes/detail.php?id=181, except that we take Moscow Road on the south side of the Russian River. For the exact route see https://ridewithgps.com/routes/37252403.

Moscow Road is closed to cars where the road has fallen away, but bikes can get through. Many roads in Sonoma County have been resurfaced, among them Occidental Road, Bohemian Highway, and the first part of Willow Creek road. It's a pleasure to ride them, which wasn't always the case.

The coffee shop in Duncan's Mills has limited offerings, and there's not much at Wild Flour either. You had best bring your own sustenance.

Please print or download your own map, or let me know if you need a printed version of the route.

UPDATE:

CANCELED. Due to dubious air quality this ride is canceled. We'll aim to do it after the fire season and before the water season.

Pre-registration is closed for this ride. Do not show up if you are not registered.
