Meet at 9:25 am for a 9:35 am start
Start Location: Milpitas BART
Pre-registration

Want to ride the Low-Key Hill Climbs series, but can't make the big Saturday group? This week's climb takes us up Calaveras and Felter through the beautiful foothills east of Milpitas. We'll start at Milpitas BART (the first Sunday train from Berkeley/Oakland arrives at 9:22 am). We'll roll out of Milpitas at an easy warmup pace and regroup at Alviso Adobe Park for bathrooms and water before the climb.

The official timed segment is 8.5 miles with about 2,000 feet of climbing. The first 4.5 miles are sustained climbing, 6% average but with some 10-14% ramps. From there it starts rolling, with one steeper (8%) climb before a rolling finish near the Sierra summit. Ride leaders (and likely most riders) will be doing the segment as a max effort — but feel free to ride it as hard or as easy as you like! We'll regroup at the top and wait for all.

After the climb, we'll descend Felter (carefully! there are 10-14% stretches) and make a brief stop at Ed Levin Park for water and bathrooms — this will add a bit of extra climbing later, but it's the only reliable water refill spot in the area. From there we'll keep things relaxed, riding north along Calaveras Reservoir and making an out-and-back into the quiet, oak-studded Alameda Creek valley at Sunol Regional Wilderness before heading back toward Milpitas BART.

(Remember to register for Low-Key Hill Climbs before the ride if you want to show up on the official leaderboard!)
