This Wednesday we will ride from Valley Ford through Occidental to Duncan Mills (actually according to the self-professed official website at https://duncansmillsvillage.com/ it's Duncans Mills but the website is a little dodgy on CAPITALIZATION so how do we know for sure) for lunch with a return along the beautiful Sonoma Coast. This is the classic June Birthday ride, but it is too good a route for only once a year. Since we are past Labor Day we hope for easier traffic on Hwy 1. The shortest route is about 40 miles ~2300 ft of climbing (includes riding to lunch on Moscow Road). Riding Austin Creek on the way to lunch adds ~7 miles and ~250 ft climbing. After lunch, there is a popular out and back on Hwy 1 past Jenner to overlook the mouth of the Russian River where we see lounging marine mammals and birds (adds ~4 miles and ~200 ft climbing). Some of us really like to return over Bay Hill; this adds ~200 ft of climbing, some of it steep, and trades ~4 miles on a beautiful quiet back road for ~5 miles on Hwy 1 through Bodega.

These two ridwithgps routes illustrate all the options:
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/48199495 includes Moscow Road plus Jenner: 44 mi with ~2500 ft climbing. (Skip Jenner for a 40 mile ride with ~2300 ft climbing)
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29637914 includes Austin Creek Redwoods and Bay Hill ~47 mi with ~3,000 ft climbing (add Jenner to extend).

Lunch: Since it is my birthday ride (The real day is 9/5, but my family celebrated my birthday on 9/2 for about a decade—a little deception to get me into kindergarten when I was 5—so 9/3 is a good compromise), I plan to celebrate by supplementing your lunches with a couple of large pizzas to share and an assortment of sweets.

Weather forecast according to NOAA: Valley Ford Hi of 73 (10°F cooler in the morning); Monte Rio Hi of 80, but probably mid-70s when we go through; BE PREPARED FOR fog and lower temps along the coast. Many of you were cold on the coastal leg in June.
