Current Ride Schedule

Meet at 8:15 am for a 8:25 am start
Pre-registration
Tackle one of the Epic Climb Series climbs and another epic climb-Bald Mountain and Lichau Road (also famous for being a "Gravity Road" and being the scene of Windows Wallpaper.
Note: Bald Mountain has a very steep, unpaved section. Gravel tires/gearing recommended but you can do most of it in skinny tires. I do not have a gravel bike so I expect to walk both part of the way up and down. It is, however, itself an epic climb and one of the two top climbs in Sonoma County https://pjammcycling.com/climb/383.Bald%20Mountain.
I will be biking over to Larkspur or San Rafael, meeting at 8:15, rolling by 8:25 at the Bay Trail at Buchanan. SMART train leaves Larkspur at 9:30. Please do sign up or contact me if you want to ride out to San Rafael. Otherwise, you can start in Santa Rosa-route is based on starting and finishing in Santa Rosa. Meeting time for that will be 10:40 at the SMART station, with rollout at 11.
Route map based on start/end in the same place; it's 47 miles ending at Cotati SMART station: https://www.strava.com/routes/2954659993466010298. Train leaves Cotati at 4:44 PM.
Regroup at the top and bottom of each climb. Pace I expect will be about 14-17 mph on flats depending on who shows up. We should have enough time to make it to grab food before taking the train back to San Rafael, otherwise we can get food in San Rafael (if taking the train).

We will be resuming with the classic route starting this month. Adjustments to the route may still need to be made in accordance with weather damage to trails, but as of May 1st everything was passable with a little walking. Join us for a chill T-pace version of the traditional Thursday evening road ride! We'll go up Spruce to Grizzly Peak and Skyline, then turn right to head down Shepherd's Canyon and ride back through Montclair and via the Lake Temescal bike path. For those unfamiliar with the route, the first 7 miles are climbing and then the rest of the ride is mostly flat or downhill. Lights and a light jacket/windbreaker are strongly recommended, especially since the ride finishes around sunset.
The route does include a steep (13%) 2-block stretch (Roanoke Rd.) toward the end, but riders can avoid it if needed.
We will have multiple regroups and will stick to a T pace (10-12 mph average over the course of the ride). This ride is a no-drop ride and we welcome folks new to the club!
*Note that leaders rotate weekly, and we will try to always have two leaders at each ride.

This ride travels some of my favorite Sonoma county backroads. Starting at the Cotati park and ride (bathrooms at the gas station), we wind our way to Valley Ford for a quick rest and snacks. Then it’s up Joy road (very steep but beautiful and quirky), down Coleman Valley, then back up the coast to Duncan’s Mills for lunch. We return via Moscow road and Bohemian Highway, with a quick stop in Freestone for water or snacks if necessary. Many stretches are remote and without cell service so make sure you and your bike are in good condition and you have necessary spares, etc. Meet at 9:00, roll at 9:15 sharp. RWGPS

Rider finishing times are usually shared in the ride report email to the club. While it is nice to see what times folks ride, reporting of rider times is optional, just let the ride leader know.
The first rider is off at 10:01 and a rider a minute after that. 20% chance of rain cancels. Please arrive between 9:40 and 9:50 so that we can be ready to start on time. We will have refreshments at the finish, and gels/chews and bars at the start.

There may still be some mud in a few places but it was mostly dry on the 1st. At least 35mm tires recommended, bring lights for the ride back to BART.

Pre-registration
This weekly ride often tours through West Marin, but sometimes travels to Napa, Sonoma, or Livermore, depending on the season. We have frequent regroups and usually stop for a real lunch, if it is available on the route. This listing will be updated when the route and leader have been determined, usually by Monday evening. Status updates for weather cancellations will also be posted on the schedule.
There is often a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. Faster riders should feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first.

Join me on this loop that starts off from Walnut Park in Petaluma and takes us to Tomales via Pt. Reyes-Petaluma Road. Note on the route that we don't stop at Pt. Reyes Station per usual. There will be a brief rest stop at Marin French (ca. mile 8) and a slightly longer bathroom and snack stop at the area across (kinda) the Marshall post office (ca. mile 27). The big treat, should you choose to partake, is a visit to Toluma Farms, which has goats and sheep. Their tours run from 1-3pm every first Sunday with a sliding scale admission of $5-40, which includes a cheese tasting. Let's meet at 9:00 at Walnut Park (bathrooms avail.) in Petaluma and roll soon thereafter (no later than 9:15).

Come test and develop your cycling skills. Test your fitness level and get in a great workout by riding the Bears Loop as a time trial. Or, for new club members (or any GPC member), this is a good ride to find your pace as measured by GPC (see link https://www.grizz.org/rides/ratings.php).
The ITT is open to both members and non-members; no need to join as in the past. Pre-registration is optional, but strongly preferred.
