Ride repeats on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Ride out to Pinole, along San Pablo Dam Road and Pinole Valley Road. Meet at Orinda BART parking lot (NW corner, where Second Saturday Ride meets). Our goal is to get some riders who may cringe at riding the hilly 'bears route'; but who would like to do about 30 miles to maybe get back into riding again. Planned destination is the Bear Claw Cafe, a quaint, old-timey family bakery in downtown Pinole, with a visual historical treat in the alcove next to the building. All riders are welcome, too...just save me a Bear Claw! Bring a friend. Meet 9:45 a.m. for 10:00 a.m. roll-out. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6065338 Optional lunch at Orinda Square (Petra's Greek Cafe, Nation's burgers, Subway, Peet's and Starbucks). Sat Jul 18   4/M/110   Berkeley-Mt Diablo Loop; BYOLunch
Back by popular demand! We had nine riders (plus leader, such as he was) persist through the June "D-Day" running of this ride, despite suffering a 30 degree F change from chilly fog to "searing" heat and back again. Come see what new hardships lie in store on this counter-clockwise loop through Orinda, Moraga, Redwood Rd., Cull, Crow & Norris Canyons, and up South Gate, returning by North Gate, Pig Farm, with optional Bears or around to San Pablo Dam Rd. To give us 100+ miles we'll make a 12 mile (flat) round-trip run up Cull Canyon Rd. to see the rodeo grounds and visit the nudist colony ... entrance. Meet at Spruce and Grizzly Peak Blvd in Berkeley at 8:00 a.m. for an 8:10 sharp departure. Water stops as needed, but definitely at Willow Creek golf course on Redwood Rd., Mt Diablo and some other place TBD if the Grayson Rd golf course continues to be closed (for drought, presumably!). Otherwise, bring snacks and your lunch, to be eaten at the Mt Diablo summit. (If you prefer to skip Cull Cyn you can also buy food at a mini-mart on Crow Cyn Rd; otherwise we won't stop there.) RSVP appreciated for map count. Mark Homrighausen, homrighaus @aol.com (preferred) or (510) 528-9339.
