Fri Feb 5 3/TM/38 Pinole Peet's
Meet in front of the Albany Community Center for a prompt 10:00 a.m. departure. We'll ride up Arlington and drop down to SPDR and Pinole Valley Rd for lunch at the Peet's in Pinole. Other lunch options are available at the shopping center. Return via Castro Ranch, SPDR and Wildcat. Rain cancels. Bring lunch or $ to buy. Fri Feb 5 3/M/20-40 Weekend Tune-up Ride
Meet at Rockridge BART at 8:45 for prompt 9:00 a.m. departure. Will do various routes in the Oakland/Berkeley hills. Steady paced ride with few or no breaks. Good tuneup for a hard weekend ride. Sat Feb 6 4/TM/70-80 In Search of the Phoenix, the Mythical Sacred Firebird, Series: Part 1, Calaveras and Mt Hamilton
We will be looking for the Phoenix, "the mythical bird with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet", as we ride in the shady Calaveras Rd and the majestic Mt Hamilton. Bring snacks and lunch. Meet downtown Sunol at 8:45 a.m. for prompt departure at 9:00 a.m. Carpool is strongly encouraged, if you can give a ride or need one, or have any questions please call Estella at (510) 540-6449. Sun Feb 7 3/MB/66 Two Bridges
Meet at 8:20 a.m. at N Berkeley BART for 8:30 departure. This new route takes us through Tilden and out Pinole Valley Rd and San Pablo Ave to the Carquinez Bridge. After winding through residential streets in Vallejo we drop down Benicia Rd to the Benicia State Rec Area and then through Benicia to the new path on the Benicia-Martinez Bridge. In Martinez we will take Shell Ave and Alhambra Ave to Alhambra Valley Rd, then climb the backside of Pig Farm, the Bears, and return through Tilden to the start. Regroups will be decided at the start of the ride depending on the riders present. If you have been on M rides, this ride is a great way to test yourself on a slightly faster paced MB ride. Tue Feb 9 3/T/52 Walnut Creek/Martinez/Danville Loop
We'll take a tour through Walnut Creek to Danville by way of Martinez! We meet in the parking lot of the Target Store, which is just a block from the BART Station (1871 N Main St Walnut Creek) for those who would like to BART over to the start. The route is an easy 3100' of climbing. There will be two opportunities to get food at Starbucks at mile 21, or the Big Apple Bagels at mile 37. Arrive at 8:45 ready to roll by 9:00 a.m. Bathrooms available inside Target. Bring water and lunch or money to buy. Route sheets will be provided. Sat Feb 13 3/LTM/35,65,90 Alex's Second Saturday All-Club Ride in MARIN
This is the GPC monthly all-club ride. For a change, this month we will ride in Marin, past Novato and Stafford Lake toward the Cheese Factory and beyond. Meet across the street from the Marinwood Community Center on Miller Creek Rd at 9:00 a.m. for a 9:15 departure. The first 8 miles we all ride together at a social pace ... you'll ride with club members you might not see for the rest of the month. After that, we split into separate pace groups: LT pace group (total distance about 35 miles); T and TM pace groups (total about 65 miles); M pace group (total about 90 miles). Other pace groups for those routes may be be organized if enough riders are interested. Take 101 N, exit Lucas Valley Rd, go 1 mi W on Lucas Valley and make a R on Miller Creek Rd. Park on the street across from the community center. Please carpool if possible. Rain cancels. Mon Feb 15 5/TM/52 Tunitas Creek/Birthday Ride
Help Janet Monks celebrate her birthday with a ride to and up the fabled Tunitas Creek Rd. Meet Janet and Phil at 9:45 a.m., roll at 10:00, at Woodside Town Hall (2955 Woodside Rd at Whiskey Hill Rd). We'll warm up on Old La Honda and continue via Haskins Hill to Pescadero for lunch. Then it's up and over Stage Rd to Hwy 1 via San Gregorio. Then comes the climb we've all been waiting for: Tunitas Creek to Skyline. Finish by descending King's Mountain Rd to return to the start. We'll take the Canal and Iron Horse Trails to Danville Blvd. From there it's on to South Gate Rd to the Junction Ranger Station and to the summit for lunch. Return via North Gate Rd. Post ride stop at Peet's. Bring H2O, snacks and lunch. Rain cancels. We will be looking for this mythical bird on the shores of Alpine Lake, the summit of Mt Tamalpais, the Pacific Ocean and on Bolinas-Fairfax Rd. Sun Feb 21 4/MB/58 Briones-Redwood Loop with Hills and Fast Pace!
Meet at 8:20 a.m. at N Berkeley BART for 8:30 departure. Let's build on the speed developed in the flatter Two Bridges ride of Feb 7 to hammer out an MB pace on this 58-mile loop with 5,000 ft of climbing. We'll head through Tilden and over the Bears to Alhambra Valley Rd. After circling Briones on Reliez Valley Rd, we'll pass through Lafayette and pick up Moraga Rd, continue through Moraga and then take Pinehurst to Redwood. After the climb up Redwood we'll take Skyline and Grizzly Peak all the way back to Berkeley, dropping down Spruce and Cedar back to the start. We will leave the quaint little town of Nicasio and head out by way of Pt Reyes-Petaluma Rd to Platform Bridge. We can make a stop at Inverness Store where you can buy food. Then head out to Hearts Desire Beach to eat our lunch at about mile 21. We will return by way of the Bovine Bakery in Pt Reyes Station where we can warm up with a cup of java. Wipe off the winter dust and join us for the first of two Warm Up Rides that will help get you ready for the Century Prep Ride Series. Meet at 10:00 a.m. at N Berkeley BART and ride to San Pablo Dam Rd and climb Wildcat Canyon to Spruce and return to BART. No Drop. Helmets required. Sun Feb 28 1/XL/up-to-14 Bay Trail to Richmond
Meet for a 10:00 a.m. start on east side of Berkeley's Aquatic Park; down Bancroft, left at Aquatic Park and go 'til you run out of road. From N Berkeley BART, go west and a little south to Hearst and 4th, left on 4th, right on Addison, and left into Aquatic Park (1.8 miles). The 14 mile round trip out-and-back is appropriate for older kids and adults with trailers/trail-a-bikes (and anyone else who wants a relaxing ride).
