Fri Jul 3 4/M/85 Knoxville Challenge
Start in beautiful downtown Pope Valley, ready to roll at 8:30 a.m. We will climb Knoxville-Berryessa Rd up to lunch at Lower Lake. Between the two rides posted, (see Jul 18) we do the entire Knoxville Double route, which is held this year on Sep 19th. Water hydration packs are highly recommended due to the long stretch (about 48mi, one big climb, and no facilities) between Pope Valley and Lower Lake. After lunch the joy of climbing continues, as we head up Loch Lomond to Cobb Mtn, then cruise back to Pope Valley. Elevation gain about 5600ft. Brian Aldrich, brianaldrich at comcast dot net. Fri Jul 3 4/T/38 Limantour Beach
It's a holiday, right! Let's meet in Nicasio at 10:15 a.m. and ride to Limantour Beach in Pt Reyes for lunch. Return via Olema hill and Platform Bridge Rd. The 7 mile Limantour Rd has several challenging hills, but beautiful vistas also. Bring lunch or buy it in Pt Reyes Station; bring a bike lock if you have one. Sat Jul 4 4/LTMB/18.7 GPC Individual Time Trial
Meet at the corner of San Pablo Dam Rd and Bear Creek Rd by 9:40 a.m. for a race against the clock. First rider off at 10:01 with a rider a minute after that. Due to insurance requirements current GPC membership is required. If you want to ride and are not a current GPC member you can join or renew before the start, annual dues are $15. Feeling too recreational to compete against the clock? Then meet at the corner of Spruce and Grizzly at the bus bench at 9:00 a.m. for 9:15 departure. Sat Jul 11 3/LTM/35,55,90 Alex's Second Saturday All-Club Ride in MARIN
This is the GPC monthly all-club ride. For a change, this month we will ride in Marin, past Novato and Stafford Lake toward the Cheese Factory and beyond. Meet across the street from the Marinwood Community Center on Miller Creek Rd at 9:00 a.m. for a 9:15 departure. The first 10 miles all pace groups ride together at a social pace ... you'll ride with club members you might not see for the rest of the month. After that, we split into four separate pace groups: LT pace group (total distance about 35 miles); T and TM pace groups (total about 55 miles); M pace group (total 90+ miles). A TM group for the 90+ mile route will be organized if enough riders are interested. Take 101 N, exit Lucas Valley Rd, go 1 mi W on Lucas Valley and make a R on Miller Creek Rd. We will start near Vacaville at Pena Adobe/Lagoon Valley Park, ready to roll at 8:30 a.m. We will wind our way around to Napa Valley, climb Howell Mtn, then return via Lake Berryessa and aptly named Pleasants Valley Rd. Sat Jul 18 3/T/70 Castro Valley Calaveras Rd Loop
Meet at Castro Valley BART for an 8:30 a.m. departure. For those taking BART, a train arrives at 8:19. Ride will roll out Dublin Canyon to Pleasanton, down Foothill to Sunol and then out Calaveras Rd and back to Castro Valley BART on the flats. Food and rest stops in Sunol and Milpitas. Sat Jul 25 2/TM/52 Sonoma Tandem Rally
Calling all tandems......Meet in Valley Ford at 9:40 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. departure. Follow us as we meander the beautiful back roads that join the quaint little towns of Freestone, Occidental and Monte Rio. We'll ride under the redwoods along Austin Creek Rd to Cazadero for lunch at Raymond's Bakery and take Hwy 116 thru Duncans Mills for a jaunt along part of the Russian River. From there, we go on Hwy 1 to take in the spectacular views along the gorgeous Sonoma coast to Bodega Bay. We'll continue along Hwy 1 back to Valley Ford. All characters are welcome, single bikes and faster riders alike. The more the merrier! Come prepared to enjoy the scenery and have fun. Bring a happy attitude, H2O, snacks, lunch or $ to buy. (for an extended ride starting from Petaluma-adds 40 mi, please contact the ride leaders for more info) Take Hwy 101 N to Petaluma, exit at Washington St West which becomes Bodega Ave. After roughly 10 miles, bear right to continue on Valley Ford Rd. Meet at N Berk BART at 8:10 a.m. for an 8:15 start. We'll ride the 9 mi to breakfast at Kaliente and decide on the rest of the ride as we eat; we often split into long and medium groups. The short option is doing Dam Rd after breakfast, up Wildcat and down Spruce. This route may not have an official leader, but it's an easy route to do on your own. 100K at a sane pace. Meet at 9:00 a.m. for 9:15 departure at Miller Creek Community Center at Lucas Valley and Miller Creek Rds. Sun Jul 26 1/XL/up-to-14 and 2/L/23-25
Bay Trail to Richmond/Pt Richmond Meet for a 10:00 a.m. start on east side of Berkeley's Aquatic Park; come down Bancroft, Left at Aquatic Park and go 'til you run out of road. From N Berkeley BART, go west and south to Hearst and 4th, left on 4th, right on Addison, and left into Aquatic Park (1.8 miles). The XL group will ride down the Bay Trail to a playground in Richmond, while the L group will continue to Pt Richmond and back. There is an optional tunnel in Pt Richmond that will cut out a few miles and hills. The 14 mile rd trip out-and-back is appropriate for older kids and adults with trailers/trail-a-bikes (and anyone else who wants a relaxing ride). Other families have the option to go shorter distances and turn around. After the ride there is an optional lunch next to the foot/bike bridge and more play time in the Aquatic Park playground. If there is no interest in the XL ride, then Toshi will lead the option through the tunnel.
