Mt Tam for Turtles--via BART
Chris and I can never keep up with the TM pace that is usually
listed for Mt Tam--join us if you want to do Tam at a true Turtle
pace. Meet at Civic Center BART; top of the escalator/stairs to UN
Plaza--First trains are scheduled to arrive at 8:36 a.m.
(Pittsburg/Baypoint line) and 8:31 a.m. (Dublin-Pleasanton line).
We'll roll as soon as possible after arrival. This route to the
bridge will take us on a green route through the Presidio that
avoids left over tourist madness of Fisherman's Wharf. As a bonus
we will roll past 3 heads, 6 arms as we leave Civic Center. We'll
ride across the Bridge, through Mill Valley to Fairfax, Alpine Dam,
Ridgecrest, Rocksprings, Summit, then down to Mill Valley via
Panoramic and Hwy 1 and back to SF. The ride can be shortened by
skipping the Summit, or starting at the Bridge (~55 mi) or Mill
Valley (~40)--call or e-mail the leaders for times at these starts.
The ! in the rating is because the 40 miles from MV to MV is a 5.

so bring lunch and carry plenty of water. Chis Witt <ctwitt at sonic dot net> and Pat Greene

No-Bakery Ride: Rigatoni's in Castro Valley
Recently (well, hey, for ages!) there have been complaints from
various quarters as to what is wrong with GPC. Ride ratings too
vague. Ride ratings too precise. Too much like a business. Too much
like herding cats. Etc. But after careful investigation, we have
determined the root problem. It is ... too many "Bakery Rides"! To
offset this, as an act of good citizenship we are instituting the
No-Bakery Ride Series. For our inaugural No-Bakery Ride, meet 9:00
a.m., for prompt 9:15 start, at the north corner of Spruce St and
Grizzly Peak Blvd in Berkeley -- the benches/plaza overlooking the
reservoir. We will ride a modified version of the the Grizzly Peak
Century South Loop: Grizzly, Skyline, past the Zoo, Lake Chabot Rd
into Castro Valley (but no Seven Hills Rd, for you old-timers who
remember that). Lunch will be proper sit-down style in CV at
Rigatoni's excellent bicycle-friendly Italian fare. Return via
Redwood, Pinehurst, Skyline, Grizzly. Note: The route is plenty
hilly -- almost no level stretches -- but we can't give you a
perfect number. That's what 5? means. Rain cancels. Any questions,
contact the leaders, Jane Bailowitz (<jbwitz
at earthlink
dot net>) and Mark Abrahams (510)
524-1294. Remember -- the No-Bakery Ride Series, "Where Real Riders
Eat Real Food".
