Grizzly Peak Century
Changes in Recent Years

This page summarizes the main changes in the Grizzly Peak Century since 2007 and 2008. Even if you rode the Century last year, it's still a good idea to review the detailed information page.

Route Change

Beginning in 2011, the longer routes will no longer return to the start/finish for lunch between the north and south loops. Instead, there will be an additional rest stop on the south loop and riders doing the longer routes will get their traditional hot meal at the end of the ride.

Beginning in 2012, we have eliminated the "Rheem surprise" from the end of the "metric" route.

Pre-Century Bike Checks

Beginning in 2010, some of our sponsors provide free bike safety and performance inspections in advance of the century. See the sponsors page for details about this.

Carpool Finder

Also beginning in 2010 we have a listing of people seeking or offering carpooling to the Century. See our Carpool Finder.

Massage

See the detailed information page.

Parking

Parking spaces in the parking at the high school's parking lot have always been limited. In 2008, those spaces were reserved for carpoolers, but that didn't work well. We still strongly encourage you to carpool, but we will not be offering preferential parking.

Route

In addition to the 73 and 112 mile routes offered in 2008, we now have a 104 mile route which uses an out-and-back segment on Redwood Rd. (As of 2011, the longer routes have been shortened to 109 and 102 miles respectively and as of 2012, the shorter route is increased to 75 miles.) For more detail see the section on routes.

Time Limits

The overall closing time changed to 6:00pm in 2007. That's one hour earlier than previous years. We won't try to haul you off the course at 6pm (these are public roads, you can ride all night if you want!) but at 6pm our volunteers will be packing up to go home. A limited amount of SAG and cold food will be available after 6pm for stragglers.

That means you'll need to start early and keep moving if you want to complete the full century by closing time. For more detail see the section on times and time limits.

Going Green

We're continuing changes we started in 2008 behind the scenes to reduce the environmental impact of our Century. Here are some ways you can help:
